Commercial Description:
This dark German lager, known as schwarbier, is dangerously quaffable. Our version of this timeless classic has a medium body and takes on flavors to dark chocolate and cocoa. The use of hops are strictly to balance this beer out, allowing the velvety malt profile to take front and center. This is a nice session beer for the winter months ahead.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Very dark brown colour with a thick sticky tan head.. Aroma is great, sweet rich milk chocolate. Soft noble hop aroma and a nice light herbal chracter. Flavour is lightly toasty and nutty with a soft chocolate and a light crisp bitterness. Soft lingering roast and a bit of sulfury yeastiness on the back. Lingering bready yeastiness in the middle. Silky palate and a very fine texture. Great brew.

Growler from Whole Foods. Dark brown, decent head. Aroma is all malt; sweet and toasty caramel and pumpernickel. Tasting reveals powdered cocoa as well. Mild. Medium bodied but on the thin side. Soft mouthfeel. There is no bitterness, or dryness or off flavors at the end; the malt taste simply diminishes and the beer peacefully fades rather than finishes.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Bitter, black coffee aroma, kind of has that "cold" nose to it. Don’t know how to describe it better, but it’s a sensation that I definitely get out of some beers, whether they are too cold or not.

Granted, the Blind Tiger, does serve their beers way too cold, but I digress... Flavor is very roasty, dominated by black malts. Chewy, with an empty, bitter finish. No hops, and a nice body.

Draft at the Blind Tiger. Black pour. Aroma is some lightly roasted malt and burnt cola. The taste was the same, but sweet overall with the cola flavor. Not much chocolate. Enjoyable.

On tap at the Blind Tiger labelled Schwarzbier. poured a very black as expected. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and cola. Tasted was similar, predominately roasted malt, caramel with a light chocolate hint. Solid version of the style.

Awesome black colour with a good thick head. Aroma is that of toasted malts. Very drinkable due to its soft approach.

Tap @ Southampton. Pours a deep brown color with a light but thick off-white head. Aroma is largely roasted malt with an ever-so-slight hint of cocoa in there as well. Smooth taste, with cocoa dissolving into roasted malt, with no noticeable alcohol burn or hop bitterness. Finishes with a nice aftertaste of roasted malt. A very solid offering.

On tap at the Publick House. Arrived at the table a very dark brown with a thin but creamy light tan head that faded to a ring after the first few sips. Light but pleasant aroma of lightly roasted malt and just a hint of coffee. The flavor is bit stronger than the aroma would suggest with a very similar profile. Quite smooth at the finish with virtually no hops detected. A very good beer for the style.
