| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2007 Courtesy MaxxDaddy. Pours a hazy gold with a medium white head. Pretty yeasty. Monster clove and spiciness in the aromas. A hint of some mint and cinnamon as well. Very lovely and inviting smelling. Taste is very spicy, alot going on. Just a smidge of funky sourness, but mostly clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a little citrus too. Mouthfeel is quite rich, and the taste dances on the tastebuds. Quite possibly the best American saison there is. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2007 Dry, bitter, herbal, floral, reminds me slightly of Saison Dupont but with slightly less carbonation. Malt is subtle but hints of honey and biscuit are there along with a simple-syrup-like initial sweetness that fades to the dry middle and end. Mild esters. Good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Bottle courtesy of IMtheOptimator: Poured a slightly cloudy yellowish color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of ester yeast and light spices with some very nice floral notes was very much enjoyable. Taste is a well balance mix between light and floral spices and a nice ester yeast all backup by some Belgian style malt and a medium dry hoppy finish. Body is quite full with some adequate carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. If somebody at told me this beer was from Dupont or Fantome, I would have had not problem believing it (which by the way is a great compliment coming from me). scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2007 750 bottle on-site at SHPH - Thanks again Spence! #1100 for me. Lightly hazed amber, thick creamy off white head. Deep rich nose of fresh flowers, toasted caramel, honeyed biscuits, and grass, with softer tones of peppered bread dough and lemon meringue. Intense flavor profile of candied flowers, booze, and sugared fruity tones. Rounds out well with just the right amount of hop bitterness to pull it all together. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, dry floral, lightly bitter finish. A truly unique and tasty experience. Wish I had got another bottle to go... | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 28, 2007 I know it’s described as merely a saison but it felt more like a good Belgian tripel. Wild flowers in the nose? Maybe, but good yeast and bread and notes of something. Huge head on a clear golden body. Again, flavor more of a tripel than a saison ... with bread and yeast and ... ok .. wild flowers instead of what I would have called a grassy tripel note. Lively in the mouth. Good finish. Delightful. bobaidan (359), Farmington, Connecticut, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Pours a clear gold with a medium head of tiny bubbles. Aroma is fruity and appetizing with much less floral than I expected. Flavor is interesting, it starts with a taste I can only describe as flower like, which I have not found in any other beer. This quickly changes to a more grassy flavor and a bitter hop finish. Very unique, and quit tasty. Cletus (5052), Connecticut, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Pours copper gold with a nice well sustained white head. Smells of lots of fruit (apples, peaches, pears, oranges), caramel, sugar and wheat. Tastes of hay, grass, fresh fruit, pepper, nice perfumy hints throughout. Mouthfeel is moderately bitter and full. Finish is of hay, light pepper and has many farmhouse qualities. Well done! beerbill (1944), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2007 750 ml bottle, bottled at Southampton Publick House. The first glass I poured was a clear gold with a large, frothy white head and lots of carbonation. The second glass I poured was a hazy, almost antique gold color, with a slightly smaller head and a bit less carbonation. I’m guessing there was some sediment on the bottom which did not mix with the initial pour. Other than the appearance, both pours were identical in terms of aroma, flavor and palate. Very nice aroma of malt, rock candy, and a touch of honey. The flavor was also a nice combination of malt, barrel syrup, honey, a bit of orange, all followed up with a warming alcohol burn. Quite good and a tip of the hat to the folks at Southampton Publick House for a job well done.
