bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 12, 2008 Draft at Capone’s: pours a golden amber color with a frothy white head, aroma and taste is herbal with some lavender hints being the most prevalent. Very nice stuff. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2008 Draft. I was freaking furious when this ran out at BT before getting to try it so, 3 days later trip to SPH draft and bottled, NICE!
Pours a medium dark orange body with a quick diminishing light head Aroma is sweet malt quickly covered up by cinnamon and floral notes. No sourness or real etoh in the nose. Flavor is just the same. This needs some time to allow the sweetness to die off then i’ll revisit this. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA May 18, 2008 Sampled at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. Pours a transparent gold with a soft, cloudy white head. Aroma is mild with perfume and yeast. Flavor has stronger malts, spice, banana, yeast and hay. Clean, spicy, yeasty finish. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA May 14, 2008 750ml bottle. Highly aromatic. Chamomile and lavender come to the fore first. Honeyed malt, wet spring time grass. Smells like a field of wildflowers after a gentile shower. Beautiful. Pours a rich copper with a decent sized and stable chalky white head. Plenty of honey malt on the tongue. There is enough herbal and floral notes to keep the sweetness at bay. Mild grassy hop notes balance out as well. Earthy, juicy, floral. Delicate and quite balanced. Medium bodied with the right amount of carbonation. Finishes with a lengthy amalgam of of spices, herbs and sweetness. Thanks a ton Eugene for this wonderful example of this style! EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA May 13, 2008 Very hazy thick pour. Looks almost like pulpy grapefruit juice. Very spicy aroma with lots of flowery tones. Lots of herbs - oregano or basil or other Italian herbs. Spicy peppery taste with cardamom and clove. Lots of earthy tones with flowers and lavender. Hint of malt and bitter creamy finish. Very good, refreshing and unique beer. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Apr 29, 2008 Aroma of cardamom and lemon tea. Flavors include graham cracker and also some lemon. Palate is fizzy, too much so, detracts from this eccentric herbal tea-like beer. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 13, 2008 2005 on the cage. Slightly hazy golden body, huge carbonation and big fluffy white head. Dry pollen and corn bread aroma. The flavor has a pervasive honey-cornbread sweetness with stemmy grass and a mandarin orange rind. Bit too sweet for my taste. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 1, 2008 Rating from memory. 2005 bottle, purchased at some lovely bottle shop in Philly. A really interesting saison that lingers in the memory, with a full body, pleasantly piqant aroma, and a sharp, quirky flavor. Hibiscus and rose petals come across to this relatively unsophisticated nose, giving an interesting quality to an already good saison (less buttery than their Deluxe). I do hope to try this again sometime.
