IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 This beer is decent. Citrus flavors dominate the finish and add to the crispness. After its all done it leaves a taste in my mouth that isn’t great, my only problem with this. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 5, 2008 Pours pale, cloudy, light gold. A moderate, dense white head rose to an inch upon pouring, and receded to a skim coat, followed by a few mere whisps of bubble threads on the surface. Some subtle lacework was evident at first, but dissapated after a few sips.
Aromatics are spicy, zesty, and fruity. Lemon zest and coriander take the lead, with notes of wet straw, cracked cumin, and mint follow through.
Mouthfeel is a quenching balance of crispiness and creamyness. Carbonation is medium and slightly spritzy.
The pallet is filled with citric twang, balanced spicing, and an earthy dryness. Lemon overtones layered on orange zest, white pepper, spearmint, and a slight citic bite of corainder. A yeasty, almost funky follow-through adds some nice depth and complexity.
A more substantial grain bill and alcohol level keeps this double white from being watery.
Finishes drying, slightly warming, and approachable for the next sip.
At $7.99 per sixer, this beer kicks Allagash white out of the beer cellar.
rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 3, 2008 Draught at Hop Devil, Belgian Room, NYC. Hazy yellow color, small white head. Yeasty, fruity aroma, some citrus, some spices. Nice malty spicy flavor, fruity notes. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Mar 2, 2008 Golden and hazy with a small, firm head. The aroma has sweetness, notes of oranges and coriander. The flavour has sweetness, notes of yeast, some initial rubber, coriander, oranges, curacao, citrus very sour and tart grapefruit and citrus peel, and this tartness is too dominating IMO. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Feb 27, 2008 Thanx to ElMatador for this.A cloudy pour with a frothy white head.Citrus aroma pouring out of this.Citrus, orange peel and spices round out the flavors here.Finished off clean. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Spicy aroma, teaish, coriander and clove. Cloudy yellow colour, small white head. The flavour has the same spices as aroma along with a little yeast and a certain semi-pleasant bitterness. Refreshing and tasty enough, but nothing out of the ordinary. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 19, 2008 12oz bottle, Sunset Grill. It is quite deceptive. Nothing that tastes like this should be 7% - that ends marriages. A great white flavor - lemon, citrus peel, sun, but a finish so smooth that the flavor is lent a very respectable ’fullness’ from very slight yeast. Well done! yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 15, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow to orange with lacing white head. Aroma is wheaty and bubblegum. Flavour holds the classic germen hefeweizen flavours and some belgian wit notes like coriander. Yeasty, spiced and overly banana fruity, goes into a more coriander and orange peel dominated flavour as the beer heats up. Ends lingering banana fruity finish. More German than Belgian, I’ve never been impressed by US imitations of these two styles (not that I am a big fan of the German Hefeweizen style), this one doesn’t change that.
