hiphops (280), caldwell, New Jersey, USA Feb 8, 2007 double huh??? 4.50 for a 6 pack is str bidniz. this beer is very pale and cloudy white and taste more like curacao and coriander than beer. maybe a little over spiced not sure how much i could drink in a row but not a bad witbier overall. TuckahoeJoe (12), Tuckahoe, New York, USA Feb 7, 2007 I’m generally not crazy about wits...BUT I am about this one! Thsi has so many wonderful attributes: The aroma is sweet, not sour or yeasty. The pou is fine and smooth. The head is white with tiny tight bubbles...and the flavor is what I have always hoped for: all that smooth full body, pleanty of fresh bready flavor with a hint of lemon/citrus. And the wheat dosen’t hit you in the back of the throught. Instead, it just adds complexity to the flavor. A well deserved rating on Ratebeer!!! Rballs01 (264), Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, USA Feb 5, 2007 07 vintage bottle. Awesome flavors going on. Pours like pulpy O.J. Smells of clove, banana and bubble gum. Velvety smooth texture and a flavor that lingers on the palate well after the beer is gone. Delicious for anytime of the year. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Feb 4, 2007 22oz bottle: Pours a very clear yellow with big white head. Aroma is the wit yeast all the way, with the orange and coriander making it’s presence followed by some spiciness. Flavor is much the same Yeast all the way with the orange being pretty subdued and the coriander coming through more. Then it takes a turn for the worst I think the wheat takes over and kills it being sour, irony and just not tasting good, that mixed with orange and coriander just isn’t helping followed by a pepper bite in the back. This just had a sour irony nasty tasting bite to it that made this beer a drain pour. I can’t believe this is the #1 wit. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 28, 2007 750mL bottle corked and caged received from ABUSEDGOAT in a trade, stickered 2005. Pours a clear hazy golden 1 1/2 finger white head. Aroma of fresh orange slices, some yeast, some spicy peppery hops, coriander. When I first popped the cork I thought that this was fairly oaky and sour, but upon pouring I just got some tartness. Flavor has lots of yeast and spice to go along with the lemon tang and sweetish oranges. Coriander is also present. It almost has the cloying sweet flavor of some Belgians and saisons that I can’t hardly stand, but not quite. Semidry finish. Moderate carbonation, light body. Pretty good overall. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Jan 24, 2007 Pours a unique hazy light orange yellow. Not much head to it, very light white bubbles. Very floral in the smell, get some orange blossom, and light citrus. Taste is somewhat mellow with very subtle citrus hints. Very easy drinking. Hints of orange in the finish. Nicely done. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Jan 23, 2007 22 oz bottle: Clears a very pale yellow w/ a pillowy, lasting, medium sized white head. Aromas at first are mixed peppery/clove spice, medium light coriander, and lots of wheat malt. I’m not getting the orange peel at all in the aroma. Also a bit of a pils malt aroma. Yeast adds a bit of bready character, and has a hint, just a hint, of banana in the aroma followed by whisps of sulphury yeast. The flavor is well balanced and has just that hint of tartness that the classics have. Also a bready wheat character w/ some coriander flavor along with a bit of alcoholic estery flavor @ the finish. Again, the orange seems absent. Finishes on the dry side w/ a wheat malt flavor and a bit of spicy yeast. There is just a bit of herbal hop in the aftertaste that lingers with the wheat malt. The body is light medium, carbonation is light high medium, no alcohol present in the mouth. Not a bad beer, but I’d like to see more of the orange peel come through in at least the aroma. I’ll agree that it would be oddly refreshing @ 6.8 ABV and it does have nice flavors. I actually enjoy this one pretty much! Not a classic, but good nonetheless! boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jan 21, 2007 Deceptively light is right. Poured cloudy straw colored with white creamy hues. I guess that sounds gross, but it looked okay. Aroma is coriander and substandard wheat malt. Flavor improves quite a bit, with tastes of wheat, citrus fruits, bread and light banana. Really not of the caliber of SPH beer that is made at the brewpub, but very easy to drink and refreshing. Finishes light and without a crisp wind up, just a lot of yeast. That’s alright, I enjoy a different take on a style that seems all too similar way too often. The light touch to a higher octane beer is certainly a result of a better than average recipe, or ingredients, or both.
