Commercial Description:
A "double strength" version of classic Belgian-style "white" ale. A deceptively light ale spiced with Curacao Orange Peel and coriander seed.

From 22oz, pours with a white lasting head, hazy mustard yellow/lemon color, aroma of spice, thin body, good carbonation, expected overwhelming spice and citrus, not what i got, more like what I would expect from a "single" white ale. Very good flavor, a little extra spice flavor than your normal white ale.

From a 22oz Bottle. Obtained in a trade with beerbill 2/2007. Pours a slightly hazy, but even straw gold color with a healthy layer of fine bubbled brilliant white head. Lots of sweet and zesty orange peel in the nose, along with some creamy banana and pineapple yeast aromatics. Floral rose gardens. Mild wheat plays in the background, but the fruitiness is what dominates. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a soft carbonation. A bit more yeasty spice comes out on the palate, as does the coriander herbalness that was well hidden in the nose. Sweet banana and honeysuckle wheat greet the palate with an herbal kick and a bit of peppery yeast. This fades to some chewy bread dough that’s well dusted with french herbs. Finishes with an herbal dryness that brings forth loads of coriander spice. Great brew; thanks, Bill!

12oz - Brassy, cloudy pour with a 1/4" white head. Nice lace throughout. Watery feel with a spicy palate. Some hops at the finish. A good, solid white, comparable to Hoegaarden

Great beer. One of the best white ales that I can recall in recent memory. Very nice palate, does not seem overly heavy, yet the citrus really evens it out. While it’s great in the winter, to be sure, Nice carbonation, and barely perceptible alcohol. I should add that it’s also quite nice in the summer. Very good beer.

4 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub. Consumed on 7-31-08. Pleasant appearance: Effervescent pale yellow with white head. Very good lacing. Sweet aroma features bubblegum, whipped cream, and candy sugar scents. Tastes just as it smells, plus a lemon flavor. Delicious! A touch of dryness in the finish. Smooth and frothy in the palate. Medium body, but lighter than I expected. Southampton Double White Ale is a superb beer overall.

A handful of these discounted bombers quickly found their way into my shopping cart. Glowing orange-yellow pour with a thick head and small spots of lacing. The 1st glass is vibrant and clean, the 2nd becomes murky with the abundant supply of yeast sediment. Captivating aroma of sour grapes and funky malt. All sorts of fruit and spices seem jumbled together, very aromatic and enticing. Full bodied, very malty. Tart and sweet to the taste buds. This one is filling and completely satisfying. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of the taste at first, but over time this develops into a fantastic Witbier. Funky sourness couple by a fresh sweetness, there’s lots of blended fruits like oranges, grapes, banana, and even apricot. Thick malt with a heavy wheat influence creating a hyped up goodness. I dig this beer.

22oz. Bomber This is my first encounter with Southampton. Poured a lightly cloudy straw golden. There’s a huge amount of carbonation rising like a tornado from the bottom of my pilsner glass. The head, when poured, was 1+ finger of rocky airy goodness but quickly faded to a light cap. The carbonation is unstoppable. Leaves some airy lacing after each drink that slowly falls back into the body. I really like a good white ale when I’m in the mood. So the idea of a double white really interested me. I really wasn’t sure what to expect. The nose really sends home what this beer is supposed to be. It has all the white aromas but they are much bigger than usual. When I first opened the bottle all I melled was orange. After the pour lemon took over. Starts off dusty. Then comes a generous squeeze of lemon. Big coriander and if you smell deep the lemon that was there at the beginning. After all this you get a solid dose of spicy yeast and a pinch of white pepper. The flavor is very much the same as the smell. Again, being a double white, the flavors are a lot bigger than traditional whites. Theres a splash of lemon to start things off along with some coriander. There may be a little too much coriander. Mid-palate the spiciness of the yeast and the white pepper show up and finish things off with the oriander in the background. I said there is too much coriander but that’s just me finding a fault. It’s a very good flavorful beer. The mouthfeel fits this beer really well. The body is light and refreshing. The huge amount of carbonation is surprisingly soft on the tongue but does wake up the tastebuds with a stimulating tingle. The drinkability is good. I’m drinking this now and it’s winter. I’m not getting the full refreshing, thirst quenching expierence that I would if it was hotter outside but I can only imagine how good this would be to drink on a hot 90+ summer day. One bomber is enough for now but I’d be good with a cooler of these in the summer. This is an excellent beer from Southampton and as exciting as a white ale can get. I’m glad I got my hands on this one and I’m looking forward to trying some of their other beers in the near future. 12/9/06

This delicious white ale pours cloudy yellow with a solid head. It is spicy and has the classic white ale flavor in the tradition of Belgian whites.
