Tap at the brewpub - a lot of coffee beers taste too much like coffee and not enough like beer; others are the opposite - this beer strikes a nice balance between the too - the aroma is of freshly ground itallian roast (or some other dark roast), but has enough background lactic/malt sweetness to cut it - the beer is very dry, complimenting the coffee flavor, but there is enough chocolate malt, dry mineral character, etc. to satisty even those beer drinkers that don’t like coffee - solid and well-balanced.

had this last night on tap at the Publick house. Strong coffee aroma. Deep, dark, brown almost black in color. Nice look and great taste. Strong coffee flavor but not as strong as the aroma. I’d definately go back for this brew.

Much thanks to dickinsonbeer for this fresh growler from the brewpub. Appears black with a small tan head that retains nicely. Tons of spotty lacing is left all over the glass. Smell is of coffee grounds with a touch of chocolate buried somewhere in the background. Taste is of coffee with some bitter, coffee enriched malt being the standout. Mouthfeel is bitter with some creamy sugar barely coming through. This is not bad but it’s in desperate need for balance.

Thanks Dickinsonbeer for the growler sample. Lush dark tan head with an oily fade and a deep muddy brown body. Aroma of dark-roasted coffee beans, espresso, and burnt nuts. Flavor is like moderately sour cold black coffee and stout. The coffee aspect is fairly appealing but the flavors are not well-integrated. Medium body but the impression is watery because the big coffee flavor evokes bigger beers like Peche Mortel and Speedway. An enjoyable beer, but a straight stout just can’t carry this much coffee and espresso as well as an imperial stout can.

On tap at the pub and more from a growler. Pours a very deep dark black with maroon highlights near the head. Ok head, lasting and a nice lace. Aroma is overwhelming with tons of deep dark rich coffee. Nice and smooth though, and not a harsh coffee aroma like some other coffee stouts. Flavor is slihgtly sweet, coffee throughout, with some roasted barley and hints of chocolate. Extremely smooth palate and a nice creamy finish. Big thanks to Charlie at the bar for hooking us up with this.

Sampled from Growler provided by dickinsonbeer. Poured a dark black color (with some red at the edges) and a larger sized tan head. Aromas of strong coffee (espresso), that gives way to chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes of coffee (strong but not as strong as the aroma), vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malts. I love espresso coffee, so I’m a sucker for these types of beers. Lacing left on the glass.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of espresso, smoke, chocolate and faint vanilla. Taste of chocolate, tons of roasted malt, more light vanilla, and a dry coffee finish.

Thanks to dickinsonbeer for bringing this one back in a growler from the brewpub. Pours a dark, dark brown with an average tan slightly lacing head. Aroma was as if you walked into a Starbucks. Bottom line is this is a coffee beer to the max. Flavor of coffee and maybe some cocoa.
