| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Roasted malts throughout evolve into toastiness and bitterness, as scant fieldberries roam on by. This is a decent pint, but definitely not as memorable as many other Southampton creations.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely a ring of foam to decorate the near blackness.
-The body is lean, but perhaps too much so for my tastes. Carbonation is quite lively as well, so the mouthfeel is not as soothing as most stouts can be.
-Green hoppiness supports the moderate roasty bitterness in the back.
-This lacked dark chocolate sweetness and thus a little residual sugar, at least to my tastes.

Aroma, chocolate, lots of dry roasted notes, some coffee, toasted notes. Flavor, coffee, chocolate, with a nice dry roastiness. Some roasted bitterness, medium bodied. This was really good, very drinkable, tasty. I loved it. PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Tap at Barcade: Pours near black with a deep khaki head. Aroma has some chocolate liquer, licorice and tarry burnt raisin fruitiness. Flavor has black malt character and some dark fruits (burnt raisins) upfront and a licorice hint. The finish has a nice rich roasted kilned flavor. A decent Stout. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2007 Draft at HDG. Rich and roasty both in flavor and aroma. This has a nice touch of both chocolate and coffee without either being in your face. I really like the dryness in the finish, like these cocoa dust on your throat. This is a really easy drinking stout. How about you lose that "secret" of a recipe and put this in 12 oz’ers? beerbill (1977), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2007 On tap at the SPH. Pours black with a thin mocha colored head that lasted through about half the glass. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt and a touch of chocolate and coffee. The flavor was similar to the aroma except a bit more intense. A bit dry at the finish. Enjoyable. fiulijn (7460), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2007 Draught at Hop Devil, NYC Dark color, big head. Good and powerful Stout, essentially roasted malt, but also enough caramel, good body, smooth enough. Powerful final, where some hop reveals itself behind the roasted malt. puzzl (2649), New York, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2007 On tap at Hop Devil (I think? This was just listed as "Southampton Stout." My best guess is that it’s this). Good but subtle roast in the aroma, peanut. Nice black pour with a brown head. Mostly dry flavor, oats, and a touch of residual sweetness that works well. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Dec 12, 2006 Enjoyed a pint of this one on draught at the Publik House in Southampton, NY. Pours to a jet black color, with a thick, creamy, tan head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of big dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley aromas. The palate is rich and full on the tongue with really fantastic dark chocolate, coffee, and roasty notes. This beer finishes with more big dark chocolate and coffee flavors up front, and ends with a bone dry and roasty bittereness that lingers. Outstanding example of Irish stout. Very authentic, very delicious pint of beer, that works very well with the sea food, and deserts on the Publik House menu.
