Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Bomber. This has been in the cellar for at least a couple of years. Poured clear, deeper chocolatey brown with a short-lived cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up deep, rich, roasty dark chocolate with more and more licorice as it warmed up.. had some vinous and pruney notes that had some characteristics similar to the Courage RIS I drank the other day. The flavor had warm dark chocolate, licorice, and soy on the well-roasted core with dry toffee English-inspired mild bitterness.. right at the back some coffee grounds show up.. very well-balanced and tasty! Medium-plus bodied, sweet, and roasty on the palate.. drier on the back with a grainy feel that moved it nicely across the palate.. long, mostly vinous finish that really showed some positive characteristics of its age. Great one!

Aroma of roast coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, impermeable black, small toffee head, lacing. Flavour is intensely liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate and burnt toast. Full bodied, balanced, very bitter. Wonderful! Thank You Radek Kliber.

Draught @ Beer Table. Pours deep brown, with a decent tan head that sticks around a bit. Nose is some chocolate, coffee, a bit of roasty caramel sweetness in there also. Taste is the same -- strong notes of coffee, roasted malt, maybe a hint of dark cocoa, hints of dark fruit. A bit dry overall, with a full body. Beer is supremely smooth and dangerously drinkable. Subtle carbonation, fairly viscous mouthfeel. A delicious and almost dangerously drinkable beer.

4/10/2008: Southampton Imperial Porter has a cola brown/coffee color and a mostly lasting tan head. There is a moderate level of carbonation. There is a welcoming aroma of dry dark chocolate, molasses, some smoky char, and a touch yeast and cream. The flavor has a lot of molasses, roated malt, coffee, and some dry smoky char. The finish has a nice roasty, caramelized malt flavor. There is some deep herbal flavor as well. This beer has a medium-full body and is extremely smooth on the palate. This is a good and flavorful beer, but seems more like a really good black beer, dark lager, or regular porter or something rather than a solid representation of a Baltic porter.

1 pint 6 fl. oz. bottle via trade with ClarkVV in June 2007. Thanks! Rating #446 for this beer...

Enjoyed during the Kansas vs UNC final 4 matchup. Very dark brown beer that I can actually see through pretty easy as it pours. As expected, this one is very chocolatey out of the gate. Finishes like a Caramello bar. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Good job Jayhawks!

22 oz bottle. Dark black pour, with very little aroma. Surprisingly dull flavor. Some fairly typical roasted malt flavors, but overall nothing about this beer stood out for me. Kind of surprising considering I have really liked other offerings from this brewery. This aint bad, but it’s rather dull for the style.

300 ml draught at the Blind Tiger. Pitch black colour. Tall beige fine-laced head. Sharp refreshing gently roasted black malts. Smells like a lager. Clean. Smooth texture. Bold dark malts, but has little harshness and astringency. Very nice indeed. Lots of character. Notes of dark chocolate and licorice.

Bomber. Black with a solid beige head. Big nose - roasty caramel, molasses, coffee and a big toffee presence. Nice coffee and molasses flavor, lots of toffee and dried dark fruit. Satiny body, smooooooth. Mildly dry, fruity finish, a bit of anise. Excellent!
