Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Dark brown body though not opaque. Poured with a thin tan head. Aroma is mild sweet, coffee, vanilla and perhaps some dark fruit (cherry). Taste is mild and sweet, notes of coffee, vinous fruit, finished with a nice alcohol warming. Medium full body, very smooth/creamy.

Bomber from Half-Time: Pours a translucent brown/blackwith a nice dense heat that goes to lilly-pads of carbonation with a thin film of head. A very gentle nose of malt and nectar exists but not that noticable. Body is Light and a bit watery but well represented with chocolate and pale malts. Not much hop presence and a sweeter taste prevails upon the palate. Obtuse...not rounded. Not as distinctive as I had expected. Shrug of shoulders from the cashier should ahave told me something. Not bat for 3.75

Very easy drinking brew..Quite sweet, lots of chocolate flavor, abit on the mild side, nothing too extreme, balanced. Fruity, with chocolate on the aftertaste, very nice and flavorful. Very mild alcohol. Like a dessert.

In short: A very smooth chocolaty and slightly fruity porter. Drinks like a 5%. Very good.
How: 22oz bomber (Reserve XII). About 6 months old.
The look: Almost black body with a small tan head
In long: Aroma of chocolate malts with a milk chocolate twist and a little smoke. Dominant taste is chocolate with some toffee and molasses. Fruity flavours are second with dates and grapes. Overall feeling of a doughy fruity chocolate cake. A bit milky. Some black liquorice. Rather sweet. Actually quite juicy and not very roasted at all with a relaxed carbonation all make for a surprisingly smooth beer. Surprisingly easy to drink, this stuff can be dangerous, feels like a session beer. That bomber emptied itself as quickly as a bottle of vaseline at a post Pride Parade party.

Sampled at 2007 Brewnosers’ Christmas Gathering. Opaque dark brown colour with a mostly lasting tan head. Dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee aroma with light fruit and acidic notes. Dark chocolate, nutty, and molasses flavours with a roasty and fruity bitter finish. Full bodied, chewy and rich mouthfeel. Actually quite similar to Propeller’s Revolution Imperial Stout, which we tasted after this one. That’s probably more a plug for the Revolution than the Southampton, but was an interesting comparison.
