Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Bottle from eyedrinkale back in June 2007. I think I saw this beer in Tokyo at Takayama store. I was reluctant to try this for the longest time after try several highly rated stouts and porters that I didn’t like, because they were too roasty. When I first pour the beer I see a little of the medium bubble thin dark liquid, but the aroma is nice. Malty, a bit of mellowed chocolate, some fig. The body is thin. The taste has a little bit of sweetness. A little roastiness. Not too much. Pretty nice.

Tasted blind. Very dark brown colour with a little head. Smooth soft roastedness. Also smooth flavour of a fine complexity, but ends with a thin body, overall very smooth and hints of chocolate at the end.

Bottle. Black brown pour with a short tan head. Aroma of chocolate, subtle dark fruits, roasted malt and a bit of light smoke. Flavors of roasted malt, light coffee, and a bit of smoke. Medium body, roasty/bittersweet with a dry/roasty finish. Not bad.

22 oz bottle

I have been waiting to try this for a while and finally decided there was no better time. If I didn’t like it at least it was out of the cellar. If I did it is easy to get more in Ohio (or at least easier than in Wisconsin). As it turns out it is not a bad release at all. As with most Southampton beers I won’t be rushing to get more but the brewery will get some more business in the future.

Aroma / Appearance - The body was somewhere between a burgandy and light black. Minimal head the color of fresh sawdust floated above the fluid body. Iced gingerbread cookies, graham crackers and slightly stale milk smelled a bit like a treat that had been left out for Santa all night.

Flavor / Palate - Green licorice, ash and dry coffee were a nice combination of sweet and smoky. The lingering vanilla taste give it needed complexity but it felt much like a flat soft drink (Pepsi or Coke). It’s not a bad or flawed beer in any way; I just don’t think it really stands out from many other baltic porters.

22 oz bottle, quite dark, just a little head that fades fast. Aroma is chocolate and caramel. Flavor strikes up fornt as coffee and then later comes up with a lot of various sweet notes, more chocoalte and caramel. Really delicious, silken palate with good body. really pleased with this one!

bomber acquired from shadey. poured a nice dark woody brown nearly black with a soft beige head. chocolate, roasty metallic malts and a little brown sugar in the aroma. tastes of light wood, coffee, chocolate, caramel (w/o the sweetness), some vanilla and maybe dried dark fruits? this beer had to be warm to pull any nuances out of the flavor. finishes nicely bitter and dry with some lingering charred coffee aftertaste. light to medium bodied. fortunately, it’s missing the sweetness most baltics tend to have. but, in exchange, it’s missing flavor, richness and character. mediocre porter at best

22oz. bomber into pint glass. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a light tan head that diminishes quickly. Heavy aroma of roasted malts, caramel and a hint of sweet fruit. Flavor is of dark chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malts with a slight spice finish. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Great stuff.
