Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Deep, dark mahogany body with a black center. Medium, light tan head that settles to a thin film with a prominent, frothy edge. Sudsy dots and snakes of lace are strewn about the glass. The aroma is smooth and roasty. Dark chocolate and toasted caramel malts comprise the base of the nose. Light molasses adds sweetness, while oatmeal and heavily creamed coffee add smoothing elements. The flavor is like a mocha milkshake with oaky vanilla and light caramel. Again, very smooth and easy to drink. Medium-full body with a slightly fizzy mouthfeel that just crosses the plain into overly carbonated. The lively palate is the only real flaw here. Very, very good beer.

Very black, small head. Some roasted nuts and malt, vanilla (dont know why, I found vanilla in almost every beer that night!!). There is a strong hint of old liquorice. Good but would be better if the body had been a bit more.

Thanks to Trevor for the bottle. Pours very nearly black and sports a tiny brownish head. Notes of cofee and chocolate present along with a bit of alcohol. I also get a nice roasty malt aroma. Flavor is good...chocolate and roasted malts. Chocolate on the finish...a long finish at that. Body is a little thin. Nice smooth mouthfeel...creamy. Good beer, probably even better fresh.

Aroma of caramel and liqorice? WTF? Carries into the flavour also. Slightly thin sweet caramel malty flavour thickens into liqorice. Very odd combination of flavours but I kinda like them. Odd, but pretty good.

Bottle. Pours black with a rather small brown head. Somewhat sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate and light hoppy. Body a bit too thin.

Pours a very dark black that is just one step away from being opaque. No head even with a pretty strong pour. Nose is malty, slighty sweet, but nor very present. Flavor is meaty and a good bit smokey with a good malt touch. After sampling many a blatic porter (thanks to the selection at Eagle Provisons), I have to say that this one falls short of whatever the mark may be. A little too thin in maturity. Feel is good. Nice level of bubble and that thicker liquid feel. Very drinkable of course. But in comparison to all the other Baltic Porters available (and this one being three times as much in price), this one falls short.

this was good, poured into tulip. pours a black with mild head. sweet aroma, nice and smooth palate, you notice the subtle complexity of the aged background (sat in cellar for about 8 months) smooth milky finish. dry aftertaste. good subtle, yet very complex.
