Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

22 ounce bottle in tulip glass. Almost no air sound when cap is lifted. Pours deep dark brown, almost black with almost no head. Immediately looks old. Aroma of roasted chocolate and port wine and wood. Raisiny port-like flavor with hints of chocolate. Somewhat watery body from lack of carbonation. It’s basically flat. Not enjoyable, but probably some fault of a clueless retailer. Will try again, but I gotta rate ‘em as I drink ‘em.

Bomber: Pours a dark ruby with off-white and tan bubbles that eventually clear out after a while, aromas of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, dark candy and malt sweetness, rich malt fragrance, brown sugar and hint of oily smoke, aroma of dark malt, creamy mouth feel, dark malt flavor, faint sweet, nut and dark chocolate flavors, some brown sugar and molasses flavors, roasted malt and vanilla flavors, faint alcohol on the tongue that did not increase as the beer warmed or distract from the enjoyment of this brew, this porter finishes dry, faint licorice flavor in the background, some bitterness in the finish, some burnt flavors here and there, I was not disappointed.

[403-20070706] Bottle. Sweet malt aroma has lots of booze. Dark dark brown black body with a medium-lasting bubbly tan head. Dark coffee malt flavour is very sweet with some bitter chocolate notes. Medium-full body. Nice.

22 oz bomber poured opaque black into the English pint glass. There was a small tan head, and a decent amount of stickly lacing on the sides. The scent was of chocolate, malt, caramel, and some light roasted nuts. The beer hits the palate and provides a wonderful coating of malt and chocolate, with some hints of sweet tartness and cherries on the end. A delicious porter, very drinkable.

A black apperance to this beer. Some coffee, chocolate, and caramel in the aroma. The flavor is mainly chocolate and coffee with a hint of licorice. The palate was a little disappointing. A rather thin bodied porter. Overall it was pretty good though.

Pretty good porter from a good brewer. Gentle nose of chocolate and raisins. Unusually acidic for a porter--kind of a good thing but would like a little less. Sweet flavors of chocolate, prunes, and caramel. Very bitter, burnt finish. My mouth is puckered from this beer, even though it lacked thickness and creaminess, and was thin in appearance. Good but flawed.

Bottle. Pours the darkest red/black I’ve seen yet. Could barely see through it even when held up to a light. The medium brown head dissipates quickly. Aroma is mildly chocolaty with a strong bitter front taste that gives way to a malty chocolate after taste that leaves in a short amount of time. It feels slightly thicker than average but nothing that really makes it stand out. (Note: Rating on June 27 for a winter brew.)

Bottle purchased at the Gristede’s on 31st and 3rd in Manhattan: pour is dark black with a head that disappeared quickly, aroma is malty and chocolatey, taste is also malty with some chocolate and toffee flavors. Feels a bit thin.
