Commercial Description:
Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Deep brown-red. Light roast and chocolate in the nose. Not much flavor up front, but finishes really nicely, smoke and bitter roastiness, similar to burnt wood. Some hoppy bite at the end as well. Regrettably thin.

Bottle: Black with a dark tan head. Aroma, chocolate, a bit nutty, and a little coffee. Flavor, rich and malty, some chocolate, some roasty bitterness. Pretty solid stuff.

Bomber shared with after4ever. Pours an opaque blackish brown with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, molasses and nuts. Creamy medium body with light carbonation. Tastes like coffee-soaked fruitcake topped with chocolate. The hops show up a bit in the finish.

What’s imperial about this? Not the alcohol, and definitely not the flavor. I’ve had more intense regular porters, eg. smuttynose. Black color with a tan head. Aroma is maybe a little nutty. I don’t really detect any coffee or chocolate anywhere. Maybe some stale and bitter chocolate. Somewhat watery and thin in body. disappointing. I’m not sure why Southampton is so esteemed.

Pours dark with a decent tan head. I can see through this, why? Aroma of port, coffee, raisins, and chocolate. Taste is coffee/chocolate, one-dimensional. Palate is too thin. Lacks a noticeable finish. I’d hardly call 7.2% Imperial. Disappointing.

Bomber. Thanks, Luiss! Pours jet black with thick moussy tan head. Decent lace. Big port/raisin nose. Nice creamy body but only middle of the road for thickness. Roast, nuts, and coffee join the port and raisins, with roast winning out alongside some herbal hop for the finish. This is delicious and easy drinking, and surpirisngly refreshing for the depth and complexity it offers.

22 oz bottle. Black pour with smallish head. Lots of chocolate and coffee on the aroma. The flavor lost some of that, and was replaced by a bit of alcohol. Still a very good Porter.

A bottle in the hotel at GABF 06 provided by csbosox. Super dark black, but you could get some light through it when held close enough. Brown head. Latte roasted sweet aroma. Same in the flavor. Creamy mouth feel. Rich. Good carbonation.
