| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2006 Bought at the brewery, smuggled safely home wrapped in Ernest’s dirty socks. Now that’s love. It was worth the effort. Beer is a nearly opaque, very dark brown color with a small, light brown, frothy/creamy, mostly lasting head. The aroma is malty-plushylishious: moderate-to-heavy note of roasted grain, moderate note of caramel, light notes of molasses and chocolate; low herbal hop; yeasty with moderately weighty notes of dough and tangy sharp cheese, light note of damp basement. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly-to-moderately acidic and trace bitter with a long, moderately acidic, lightly sweet finish. The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is softer-than-average. rederic (1811), montréal, Quebec, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2006 Starts off with some smoky flavors and a little bit of cherry, reminded me of a winter warmer. Then it faded into a nice roasted chocolate flavor, and finished with a little more smokiness. Body was smooth, a little creamy. Everything about it was great in my opinion, a great entry in one of my favorite styles. motelpogo (4395), Plzen, Czech Republic
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2006 i’ve tasted two markedly different bottles of this one - one with a lot of lactic sourness and the other sweetish. anyways they both were pretty black with a beige head. aroma of ashtray, stewed fruit, tar, cocoa and a bit of banana. tasted of cocoa powder stirred into ribena and cherry syrup with not much sign of alcohol and a light woodiness. quite dry and drinkable brentfeesh (1039), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2006 22 oz that I received in trade from some very generous ratebeerian. Thanks! Very dark chestnut pour with wispy head and lacing. The aroma was marked by ash, roasted/burnt malt grain, molasses and a creamy sweetness. The flavor followed suite with a light sweetness of molasses and roasted malts. Simple but flavorful. Light alcohol is noticeable as well as some light coffee/toffee hints. Creamy body. A good porter. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 8, 2006 Very chocolatey, some coffee and cream, sliky smooth. This is a delicious beer that tastes like a dessert. Really good stuff, I hope to try more. GregClow (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2006 Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry & tupalev - courtesy of tupalev. Ruby-brown colour with a dirty tan head. Aroma is mild and slightly stale, with an odd combination of roast and sour notes. Body is thin, especially for a so-called "Imperial". Flavour is fairly sweet, with notes of dark caramel and molasses, and a nice roasty finish. Not too bad, but a bit disappointing. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA

Semisweet bitter dark chocolate flavor. Lagery yuck flavor too. Stale budds. laces nicely. Ashes. Flavor gets continually worse as I have to finish over a pint of it. Bleah.
