I didn’t expect an authentic Baltic Porter smell, but this has it. Aroma has that sweet malty/alcohol mix with lots of chocolate notes. Black with a decent, but short lived mocha head. Lots of raisin and powdered chocolate in the fore...a bit of sweet malt and cocoa in the finish. Very tasty, but not as complex as I had hoped for. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

Aroma is of sweet dark malts, chocolate, and sweet cinnamon. Flavor is sweet vanillla, slight chocolate, mild edgeless roast, and cinnamon.. The palate is distractingly thin. Aroma from malts, and a hint of hops. Quite dusty aroma with toasted bread character. Very full bodied. Some dark fruits, acidity and roasted malts initially in taste followed by chocolatey mouthfeel (grainy) and a kick of the alcohol. Not too much though, as it should be in Baltic Porter. Not too sweet either. Very good balance. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

A nice play of hops against smoke with a big heavy mouth. Strong dark chocolate notes. chriso (4851), London, Greater London, England

I don’t know whether it was all the heavy doppelbocks I’d been drinking just before but I couldn’t help finding some parallels in the styles. Very dark brown with just a tinge of ruby. Heavy mouthfeel - more oily than tarry. Molasses, raisins, loads of licorice, burnt malt and some slightly sour balsamic vinegar type notes. Intriguing, but just a touch sticky for my taste.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2005 Thanks to Clark VV for the bottle. Enjoyed with Heemer77 and Indra. Served in a NB worthy glass. Nearly black color with red tints and a hazy head. Roasty aroma, coffee and 85% chocolate. The flavor, at first, is sweet malt and coffee then it is mildly sour, with roasty and coffee flavors. The finish is mildly roasty with some lingering dark chocolate. I was kinda dissapointed with this, my first Southhampton beer. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2005 22oz. bottle. Aroma of semi-sweet chocolate, roasty malt, faint coffee, lightly milky, toffeeish sweetness, some gentle alcohol notes, dark fruits and smokiness. Deep mahogany color, nearly black and clear, mostly still and lacking much in the way of a head. Bittersweet, malty flavor profile, more dark chocolate and roastiness, becoming sweeter throught and finishing with a blend of creamy, sweetened coffee and light bitterness, some very faint alcohol detected here as well. Smooth, lightly carbonated palate with a full body. Tasty enough but I was slightly underwhelmed given the reputation of this particular brewer. beerbill (1975), Laurel, New York, USA
