Toasty aroma with notes of dark fruit. toasty, roasted malt body, a bit charred, with raisin and marshmallow. Inky body. Very smooth and quite well-balanced, although it’s not as "big" as many Baltic Porters, and perhaps not as flavor-dense. I’ll take silky smooth, however. Thanks Dan (jah noth) for the bottle! Deep black, light brown at edges, attractive, fairly long lasting head. Aroma lightly of chocolate, a touch of bread. Flavors were mild and balanced, chocolate, a hint of light coffee, and a bit of boule bread. Although nothing about this beer leaps out and hits you over the head, it is well balanced and enjoyable. A bit light bodied. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 26, 2005 dark brown, almost black appearance with minimal head...aroma of coffee beans, chocolate, toffee nut afternotes....flavor of chocolate, coffeee, caramel, with a nutty, creamy and bitter aftertaste....full-bodied palate...thank you to silphium for this treat! | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 18, 2005 Deep brown with a little ruby-redness; little head to speak of. Nose had a little roast and some chocolate. Smooth and soft; light carbonation. Sour chocolate and a little yeast. Perhaps a little too sweet. Kind of cloying with some residual yeastiness. Not enough bitterness, IMO. Not bad at all, but it didn’t do much for me. I should add: I sampled the bottled, contract version. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2005 Pours brown/black with a small tan head that quickly fades. The aroma is lighter than I would like, but what is there is chocolate and molases. The flavor is chocolate, raisins and some smokiness. The texture is a bit on the thin side. The 7.5% is completely hidden. Despite its flaws, I found this quite enjoyable. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2005 I was expecting the typical small brewery Imperial Porter that is really just a less harsh imperial stout. Nope, this one tasted pretty much just like some of the authentic Baltic Porters I’ve had. The body is a dark, dark brown, but obviously not black. The head is large and has good staying power. The aroma is like that of a chocolate creme wafer cookie and there’s a bit of golden raisins and maybe some brown sugar. The flavor is surprisingly light, more of the golden raisin and chocolate. A bit thinner in body than i would have liked, and it doesn’t hold up to my expectations after the other Southamptons I’ve tried, but still a great beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2005 Typical colored body with a small head. Aroma is malt galore with chocolate, caramel, and mainly licorice. Flavor has all 3 again with mostly caramel and licorice, some chocolate. Not bitter at all. Like their IPA last night, this came off a little watery, but was still quite enjoyable. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA

Appears a dark brown/black with a tan head and spotty lacing.
Smell is of dark fruit, cocoa, and tobacco.
Taste is of the same aromas.
Mouthfeel is smooth, sweet but well balanced.
A nicely done brew. I think I liked this just a bit more on draft but not a bad one.
