Aroma was a nice mix of chocolate and thick roasted malt with just a hint of black licorice. Pour was a nice near black with a one finger tan head. Taste was a little thin, but very complex. Lots of chocolate throughout with the faintest hint of black licorice in the background. Bitter chocolate malt aftertaste. Only complaint here is the water thin mouthfeel mreusch (743), Olathe, Kansas, USA

Pours a lighter brown with a foamy two finger tan head, moderate retention, minimal lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, brown sugar, lightly roasted chocolate malts and a bit of coffee roast. Flavor is more roasty, with chocolate, some caramel sweetness and more dark fruits. Not bad, and thanks again Margaret. biznizness (956), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2008 Getting caught up from the last week or two, with the site being down and all. This is a fantastic beer. For such a bold, dark beer, it was extremely smooth. Really enjoyed it. elihapa (1069), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 11/8/08 notes: pours dark brown with a small head. Surprisingly faint aroma of chocolate and roasts. Flavor was tasty, if not entirely memorable. Palate was clean, lending drinkability. To Southampton’s credit, they managed to make a fairly strong beer drink like a lighter, drier, porter. Notes of chocolate and roasts maintain throughout, finishing along with a touch of coffee. Overall this is a quality brew, but lacking the innovation or boldness of its high ABV peers. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 19, 2008 This is a truly delicious imperial porter. Very dark brown/ebony with a khaki head. Hearty meaty nose, light smokiness with the roasted chocolate character. Port and char. Thick body with a long lingering roasty dark fruit and chocolate finish. Pours with a fluffy, light brown head and a near black body with good lacing. Aroma of chocolate, strong alcohol, brandy, raisins, dark fruits and dates. Taste is roasted malts, sweet with chocolate, and alcohol. That said the flavor is really lacking any dimmension... Creamy mouthfeel light bubbles. grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA
