Draft. Pitch black with nice sized milk chocolate head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. The taste was the same with sweet chocolate coco flavors and some marshmellows thrown in the mix. Nice complexity. Thick and creamy on the palate. The finish was of deep roasted malt and fresh bitter coffee. I drank so much of this that( dare I say) I became sick of it.

Tap @ Blind Tiger. WOW! Pours, as you’d expect, jet black with a tan head. Aroma is a beautiful mix of dark chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. Taste is largely the same, but this beer is incredibly smooth and complex throughout. Alcohol is barely noticeable here, which is an achievement given the high ABV. A home run for Southampton, as usual.

Thanks a ton for ty5992. Has a nice dark black pour with no head, coaxed a thin brown one. Has a rich roasty aroma, fruity, some coffee and chocolate. The flavor is very rich, roasty, chocolate, a little waxy, nice chocolate. The palate is smooth and rich, very nice velvety mouthfeel. Finishes roasty and leaves some coffee. A good RIS, no doubt. But not as good as it is rated.

pours black with tan head...suprise! and has a nice nose of roasted malt and hints of coffee and dark chocolate taste is much the same and reminds me of the abyss...in the way that it is not over whelming in anyway compared to the much bigger irs’s that are all the rage these days....but really nice and complex anyways....not bad at all...would like to see how the 05 is drinking now though.......as I was tasting the 08

Handbottled bomber shared by ethan and aubrey. Thanks! Nose was full with dark fruit, roast, smoke, and dark chocolate. Flavor had more roasted malt, cocoa, and and ending a little too bitter for my liking. Will have to try again.

Very pleased to try this rarity, thanks to emacgee, who brought a big ol’ handbottle (from 5/14/08) to the Carolina crew gathering at Turd’s. Opaque, with a thin head and mild retention. The aroma is yeasty, with some inspired competition from the roasted malts and dark fruits like overripe plums or figs. Very toasty malts come to the fore as you taste it, although the body’s not thick enough for this kind of brew in my opinion. Given the rarity of the brew and the expectations surrounding it, I found it a disappointing second place finisher to Lost Abbey’s Serpent’s Stout (a similar brew and a superior one). Awesome to try, though, and huge props to Ethan.

Aroma was rich creamy malts ,that good chocolate cake batter kind, taste was also fresh baked brownie, washed down with a wonderful roasted coffee, that second taste of roasted cocoa you get after the swallow, was as good as I’ve experienced in a long time, doesn’t have quite the complexity of flavors of a Dark Lord, but still a masterpiece shared by Kingpin in a Hand bottled
