| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Black with a tan head leaving excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is mostly of dark chocolate, licorice, and roastiness, also some alcohol is noticeable. Taste is of sweet caramel, toffee, roasty coffee flavors, and some licorice. Medium carbonation and body. A real good beer, and one I’d expect to age quite well. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA

Pours black with a brown/mocha head and patchy lace; quite pretty. The aroma is a simple but pleasant blend of dark roast and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with a lightly dry and bitter finish. Dark roast, and chocolate with a bitter roasted finish that features a bit of dry, earthy hops and some alcohol warmth. This is a tasty brew. Thanks for sharing it with us, Tom! theisti (1674), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2008 750 ml bottle generously shared by tjthresh. Pour is all black with a billowing khaki-tan head. Very pretty. Aroma of soft sweet chocolate, tail end of the nose reveals roasted malt. Some bright pine hoppiness makes an appearance as well. Taste is the big bitterness-pine initially, giving way almost immediately to the big roastiness. Quite a bit of carbonation in the flavor, which was a bit distracting for an IS. The finish reveals a fair amount of heat. Really well done, with the flavors all nicely integrated. This one will be a beauty with some age on it. Thanks for sharing this one Tom. tjthresh (1775), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
