Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Not bad. Copper pour with a decent head. Hoppy, woody character to the nose. Bitterness grabs your attention with this one. It also has a nice woody character to it. Finishes pretty bitter as well. Decent brew.

12 oz bottle pours copper. Aroma is light hops, iced tea, and a little malt. Flavor is nice hoppy bitterness. Much more than I expected from the aroma. Nicely balanced beer that leans more English than American IPA

on tap, NYC. Pours a typical clear dark IPA color, aroma is very citrusy and roasty- not like the typical floral scent you would normally expect of an IPA. Taste is rather bitter but not overwhelming and palate is rough but really satisfying. Overall great beer- really enjoyed this one.

12 oz. Closer to an English style IPA. Not much in the way of hop aroma, but a pretty nice hop bitterness with mild citrus hop flavor.

Not a hop bomb, but a nice hoppy taste overall. Citrus. Amber quality. Very nice. Went down well. Would drink on a regular basis if it was available down here in Missouri.

(10/25/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Southampton. Clear amber color. Aroma of butterscotch and slightly floral hops. Flavor starts sweetish with some malt and a bit of buttery hints and finishes bitter and hoppy. OK.

alcohol, hops, malt and citrus in the nose. an effervescent, copper blonde appearance. A wonderful balance of hops and bready, biscuity maltiness. Mmm. Closer to the English tradition than the American and oh so enjoyable.

Poured a weak dark yellow color with a small off white head. Aroma was malty and garbage like. Flavor was off really off with hardly any hops but not much mention of hops either. maybe a bad bottle?
