Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Hops well blended and not overpowering on the nose. Hops present in the body. Medium to light body bittered greatly by powerful hop smack. A straightforward brew. Not too in your face. Not too outstanding either

Poured a soft amber with a medium creamy yellow head. The nose was bitter, fruity, some citrus and apricot. The flavor was waxy/bitter hops, dry, some citrus notes, but mostly upfront alpha bitterness. The palate was of course waxy and bitter with a dry edge. A pretty good drinkable IPA.

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, another great session @ Papsoe] Average thick and white fizzy head that mostly diminished. Clear and flat looking body with a yellow color. Fair display of lacework. Aroma of lovely floral notes, grapefruit, citrus, elderflower, pine, apricot, other fruity notes and some caramel. Medium to full bodied with a dry texture and an average carbonation. Moderated bitter flavor with light fruity sweet notes. Dry and bitter lingering finish. 31-08-2007

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of sliffy. Pours a cloudy, pale golden with a white head leaving some lacework. Fresh, citrusy nose. Medium body, lightly sweet malts with lovely citrus notes. Dry, light bitter finish. A straight and subtle east coast IPA. 310807

12 fl oz bottle. Pours light hazy orange with a lacing white head. Dry malty almost woody nose with a light fruity hops note. Dry malty with a decent amount of bitterness kicking in at the finish.

hazy orange, thin off white head, light sweet malt aroma with light floral hops, well balanced flavor, good bitterness, sweet carmel character begins to show up but still hidden by the bitterness, good flavor for a 5.2% beer

Hazy golden color. It’s a pleasant beer, with a respectable hopping leading to a long final, quite close to the original style; not much malt body, nor powerful aromatic hopping.

Bottle. Sweetish hoppy aroma, hop oil, orange, floral, grapefruit and melon in lesser doses, and a touch of pine. Dim (but still clear) golden pour with a large rocky off-white / beige head that laces near-incredibly. Taste is very strongly bitter with the herby/grassy/piney hop notes dominant. Not really any resin - feels very clean in the mouth - but still has a bit of a down-and-dirty touch. Lightish medium body, finishes and lingers very dryly. Not at all exceptional.
