Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Clear blonde color with a lasting white crown. Nose of honey, wet grass and pears. A touch of alcohol and soggy wood. Very sweet – too much so. Tastes of browned green apples, iron, minerals et al. Cotton candy rolled heartily in the dirt. A thick black tea with almond syrup. Finishes dry, sweet and nutty with a rub of pistachio. Reminiscent of a sweet, metallic pilsner in some respects. In too many respects. Clean palate with a sour, foul edge. Even a touch of buttery diacetyl after a while. This is somewhat of a submerged iceberg. Inching steadily toward total intolerability, and completely bound to get there with too much warmth. Thanks anyway, Brian.

Good beer. A little unbalanced toward the hops. Didn’t stand out as something I would buy again.

A middle of the road IPA which presents the usual flavors, but doesn’t really come out and take hold of you. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it just did not seem to have a lot of imagination.

Poured a copper color with a big white head. Smelled nice, piney, floral hops, little bit of citrus. Taste was much the same, very nicely balanced. Nice IPA, certainly not the best I’ve had.

Copper with nice white head. Piney, floral hop aromas buoyed by caramel, and toasted citrus/vanilla malts. The brew itself is quite pleasing to taste, with delicate hop notes balancing the light roasted flower/vanilla and toffee/orange malts. This brew provides wonderful balance for an IPA and while not as punchy as others, it is a quenching and delicious offering

light orange color with a slight and quickly disappearing head. smells malty, like an amber. body is slightly different than normal IPA’s. it feels a little flat at first, even a touch heavy with malt sweetness. Then the hops kick in leaving a good balanced bitterness to go along with the sweetness. and then the hops take over, leaving a piney and resin-like note. The carbonation is apparent when you feel the hops. you almost get a flat feel at first. Feels a little sticky and sweet afterwards. a simple description would be a highly hopped amber. This was a good IPA, not the best, but it offered a different feel and taste than normal IPA’s

12 oz. Bottle. Pours a golden color with a white foam head, one finger thick, that disapates, but leaves a small foam skimming the top. Smells of floral and citrus, and a touch of malt. Nice hop bitterness, earthy/floral-ie rather than over citrusy. Malt balances the hoppiness. Upon first taste, I thought it was a very "middle of the road" IPA. Upon further inspection, that’s the whole genius of it. It IS middle of the road. Definately held up against the big ole’ New York Strip I was enjoying with it. Good stuff. Definate repeat.
