Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Bottle; poured a murky orange with white head. Aroma of caramel and citrus. Easy on the palate, almost watery, but not to any detriment. Flavor of biscuits, caramel and grapefruit. Solid, but not spectacular.

Pours a hazy dark orange color with a nice film of foamy white head. Aroma is citrus hops. Flavor starts with earthy malts then slight citrus hop flavor. Overall, expected better.

A hazy golden IPA with a thin creamy white head. Aroma of light hops and citrus, a bit faint. In mouth, a good biscuitty malt, with light sweet grapefruits, good hops, and light berry notes. Medium bodied. A classy IPA. Bought at BOTW, Fall 2006.

Poured a hazy amber color with thin white head. Aroma is piney and grassy hop aroma and caramel. Flavor was balanced with a good hop presence backed up by sweet malts. Pretty decent IPA, could use some more hops.

Bottle. Aroma starts out with piney hop smell and is backed up with caramel for the malt and earth with a slight musty smell for the yeast. The head is fizzy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is amber/orange. Flavor starts out lightly acidic and finishes both acidic and bitter. Palate is between dry and watery and is fairly light. Carbonation is betweeen fizzy and lively. This IPA could use a bit more boldness in the aroma and taste, but it’s still a pretty good drinking beer.

See that part in the description where they talk about balancing this beer with just the right amount of malt. That’s where they fucked up. They should have just overloaded this sucker with hops. It ain’t bad, I’m just sayin’. Read the other 230+ reviews if you want more than that.

1 pint draught, House of Brews, NYC. Deep golden slightly amber colour. Cloudy. Medium-sized white head. Rounded maltiness. Apricot and bready aroma. Mellow soft hops, but quite a bit of them. Smooth texture. A light hop aftertaste that doesn’t come quite thorough. Piney character. Hop bitterness is existing, but balances the rest well.

Cloudy, amber color. Smell of flowers, malt, hops, burnt caramel, honey and grapefruit. Taste of toasted malt, hops, citrus zest, grapefruit, apricots, brown sugar, flowers and a nice, refreshing bitterness. Very nice and enjoyable IPA. Thanks to JB175.
