Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

12 oz bottle. Poured an orangey/honey color with a smallishl white head. Aroma was syrupy with notes of citrus and grass. Flavor seems to be syrupy malts followed up by some bitterness. Good beer but not hoppy enough for my taste.

12oz.bottle from Half-Time. Pours a hazy golden, orange body with a medium white head. Nice lacing. Light hoppy, orange zest aroma. Pretty mild flavors throughout. Malty finish. Solid IPA but nothing special.

Copper pour with nice off-white frothy head. Some citrues on the nose, yet not too strong. I found that the malt was the focal point of this beer. Sure the hops were there, yet the malt came on the strongest. Finish was showed some signs of an IPA, but still malt was the king.

Bottle courtesy of Moejuck: Poured a deep orangey color ale with large foamy head with good retention. Aroma of piney and citrus hops is dominating and very enjoyable. Taste is a mix between some piney hops with some citrus and bitter characteristics as well as a good light toffee malt base. Full body with some adequate carbonation. This beer doesn’t break any new ground but is very satisfying and refreshing.

Bottle from beastiefan2k, thanks Eugene! Pour is golden orange amber with a normal white head. Aroma is mostly malt, with some earthy, grassy and finally some citrus hops. Taste is malt forward, but a nice transition into the bitter hop finish. The citrus aroma translated more to a bitter flavor than lemon, orange or lime. As this warmed, I picked up on an almost metallic aftertaste. The body is nice and big for an IPA. Overall, I enjoyed this beer as an example of a malt focused IPA, though it was not as hop focused as I had expected.

I am finally getting around to drinking this beer. I have always thought that Southampton and IPA are almost like an oxymoron. I love the brewery (even the stuff made outside of the Hamptons) and Its just that I never wanted to venture this way. 12 oz bottle poured into small goblet glass. The best part is the color if this beer, pours an orangish/dark golden color. Medium clarity, visible carbonation, and a small head. Aroma is what West Coast IPA is "supposed" to be but not so well translated. Its hoppy with citrus, a musty pine, slightly spoiled sweet hop, and what seems like slightly aged caramel maltiness. A bit out of wack, which is what this beer is all about. Taste is pretty citric, slightly acidic, a bitter taste, An unpleasant bitter taste leaves a slightly resinous aftertaste. Medium-light body with a slightly spiked mouthfeel. Pretty strong bitterness.

12 oz. bottle from slob (I think!). Pours brilliant orange amber with a large fluffy white head and thick lacing. Aroma of toasty malts, honey, lots of floral and somewhat grassy scents, along with peach, mild lime and tangerine - interesting IPA smells. Sweet and fruity flavor, lots of ripe citrus, honey with herby and floral hops, mild grapefruit as well. I like this more and more as it warms Full body, smooth and creamy carb.
