Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Aroma is malty with grassy woody piney hops. Flavor is about the same plus an orange peel kinda aftertaste-hop profile is slightly limited despite the description. Not bad but with so many good IPAs out, its tough competition.

Aroma has a little too much malts. Taste is not too hoppy at first, but has a good grainy quality. Decent enough to have again.

(Rating #897)

Nice sessionable IPA, if a bit tame. The body’s a light, slightly hazed amber capped with a modest, creamy head that laces in sheets. The aroma’s sweet oranges and tangerines with a hit of lemon zest. Fortunately the hop bitterness picks up a bit in the flavor, but it’s fairly evenly balanced with the caramel from the malt. Okay.

It’s always good to drink new york, and if it’s a good beer as well all the better. It looks good in the glass, with a decent amount of head. I’m not much of a pale ale person, but this is a representative example of the style that’s pleasant to nonhopheads.

[bottle] Pours a bubbling orange, with some really nice lacing. Herbal, grassy hop aroma. Flavors are plentiful hops, with some nice complexity. Spicy and earthy. Finishes with a bit of malty sweetness. Overall, a pretty good IPA-- very sessionable.

Strong nose of citrus hops, but at the same time very mellow. Almast smells like tea. Hazy reddish golden color with a large off white head. Starts with a sharp hop bite and malts that slowly dies off in the finish.
