Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Pours a hazy gold into a shaker. Offwhite foamy head top hats and volcanos. Upfront sweet malts quickly overtaken by a strong and lasting bitter rind and alcohol burn finish.

grassy, hoppy, and bitter, a hop juice type of brew. not enough character to balance the brew.

Pours a light orangy amber with a substantial loose white head, disappearing gradually. The nose is full of hops. Flowery to grassy with a creamy sweet light malt. The mouthfeel is about as close to dead on as one can be. Nice fullness, good creaminess. The flavors are nice and hoppy. Big grassy citrus to flowers end. Sweet pale malt fills in the gaps, the finish has a grapefruit seed bitterness, but it’s not quite as clean as would be best. The aftertaste is more of this lingering bitterness, with a slight burnt flavor. A very good beer, with room for improvement.

Pours tea-like into the glass, slightly hazy with a deep, beaten egg white head that coats the glass in lace. A mulled caramel nose predominates. The flavor isn’t very robust, as the ABV, even for 6.5%, seems totally hidden. I’m picking up some thinly sweet malts, although again hidden. The hop variety is well-blended; however, the thin mid-palate makes this ill-contrast the malt, leaving the brew out of balance. There’s no real citrus or grapefruit noticed. The finish lacks the true pine characteristic of a fine IPA. This one hits the bases, but not an overtly wonderful offering. (I wouldn’t kick it out of my glass, though....lol.)

bottle. Pours a clear orange, with smallish white head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet, malt, some citrus and spice. Taste is slightly spicy, hops, malt, maybe some orange. Palte is on the medium side, smooth, and clean. Decent all day drinker, but not off the charts.

pours a golden hue with a nice white head. Aromas with pine and a little straw. Flavors of the same with a mellow bitterness and hints of apples.

Sampled with Beerdrenched. Pours orange with a small white head. The aroma has butterscotch, smooth malt and a bit of mellow caramel. Medium body with a lot of soft carbonation. The taste starts with some caramel malt and mustiness. The finish is sour and has some spicy hops, but not enough for an IPA. Overall, this is quite boring and quite as disappointment as most I’ve had from the brewery has been considerably better than this.

12 oz bottle from LooseCannon. Clear as a bell gold with a nice, thick white head. Sweet nose, orange, some spiciness, light malt. Medium sweet flavor, malty, but with a nice bitter orange bite. Herbal/floral hop finish, a tad dry. Very drinkable.
