Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

12 ounce bottle from SS winter 06. Balanced aroma with orange and caramel. The flavor comes off floral. Plenty bitter. Standard body. A nice drinker. 50th IPA Rated.

bottle-pours bright orane with a small soapy white head. light skunk/almost lager character on the nose with some tea-like floral notes. flaovrs are farly hoppy with an earthy twist and high spicyness. really different and not what i was expecting here. body is somewhat thin and doesnt do anything to the overall feel of the brew. pretty rudimentary and a dud from this brewery.

On tap at SPH on 11/20/2007. Pours a crystal clear coppery orange with a moderate yellow/white head that lasted through most of the glass and left nice lacing. Pleasant aroma of grapefruit and pine. Flavor is initially caramel malt, which then combines with the pine and grapefruit flavors. Very well balanced. Nice hoppy finish, but not overdone. I paired this with a Cajun Salmon at the SPH last night and enjoyed both very much!

12 oz. bottle. Rated 11/26/2006. Pours a somewhat hazy copper orange with a moderate yellow/white head with decent lacing. Pleasant aroma of grapefruit and pine. The flavor is very similar to the aroma with grapefruit and pine in the forefront and some malt in the background. Hoppy, bitter finish as one would expect in a good IPA. Good stuff. 7-4-7-4-15.

22 oz bomber in trade from puzzl. Pours an orange yellow with a tall fluffy soapy white head. Aroma is rather light, lemon citrus and malt. Carmel, citrus flavors, lemon, grapefruit, decent overall but nothing to write home about. 6/3/7/3/14 = 3.3

12 oz bottle should be fresh from Sams, but as I pour I don’t get the hop nose I expect. Mostly malt some older grain and lemons. Malty flavors underneath the lemons and grass that don’t blend too well together. Not too appealing. Grassy citrus and touch of alcohol in the finish. 6/3/5/3/12 = 2.9

Bomber. Thanks, Luiss! Pours deep cloudy copper with a thick sudsy white head. Smells like a nice mix of floral and c-hop. Moderately aggressive attack, medium body and medium carb. Malty sweetness under a nice blend of c-hop that persists through the finish. Decent tangy pine linger to the finish. Nice tingly spice to go with the pine on the finish. A nice, mild, well-balanced IPA.

Hazy dark orange/copper. Frothy white cap. Full range hops- floral, citrus, pine, resin- and just enough malt. Medium, balanced body. Nice session IPA.

Excellent IPA, fairly clear appearance with a slight haze, nose full of hops with tones of pine & grass, thick off-white with great lacing around the glass, full-bodied & very smooth, totally drinkable & enjoyable, full hop flavor with notes of pine, caramel & grapefruit, very bitter & very dry finish, just the way an IPA should be, classic example of the style
