Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

This is not an exceptionally bitter IPA that I’d rave over but its quite a well balanced tasty one with a hop flavor that almost subsides in my mouth. The palate is medium-dry and the carbonation factor is good. This is easy to drink with no astringent characteristics to be found.

Hazy pale orange in color. No head almost flat. Hoppy aroma but thin watery pine flavor. Weak aftertaste

Enticing pour ... brightly shiny orange with a nice airy head. Orange blossom aroma. Mildly chewy hoppiness in this one with a mellow metallic finish ... a "right down the middle" American IPA.

Smooth and balanced. A great mix of hops including C-hops. Very tasty with a significant and not overdonbe amount of citrus. One of the best Southampton I have had. Good medium plus mouthfeel, nice on the tongue, and I could drink this all month.

Thanks Illinismitty. Pours with a golden-orange body topped by a meidum to thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s bitter and peppery with a slight piney notes and an underlying maltiness. Medium bodied, slightly warming and smooth.

Light copper color with smallish off white head. Aroma has a touch of kilned malts, hint of herbal hops. Flavor is rather malty, touch of herbal hops, finish is failrly bitter. Not bad.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. A standard IPA without many hops, surprisingly for a brewpub.

Draught@RFD, Washington DC. Not really what i expected, quite malty and on the light side of things. Some light melony notes, with only a touch of citric hops in the finish. Didn’t get much hop character out of either the aroma.flavour. I’m starting to wonder if these guys (RFD) poured me the right beer.
