Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

Bottle at the brewery. Beer is a clear light caramel color with a frothy, off-white, frothy, mostly diminishing head. Long arches of lacing on the glass. The aroma was more fruity and sweet than I’d anticipated: malty with light notes of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; hoppy with moderate-to-heavy notes of apricot, resin/pine and grass; yeasty with a moderate note of dough/bread; light note of honey. The flavor was heavily sweet, moderately acidic, moderately-to-heavily bitter with a long, moderately bittersweet, lightly astringent finish. Moderate doughy aftertaste. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was fizzy.

Pours a transparent orange...off whit ehead with decent retention. The aroma is heavy with caramel malt...citrus...lemon zest. The flavor is similar with the cirus coming out a bit more as well as the lemon zest. Malty and sweet in the front with a very small bitterness torwards the back...the finsih is dry and a bit bittersweet. Not a bad IPA, very drinkable though personally I prefer more of a crisp hop punch though I won’t complain about the balance.

Bottle shared with a bunch of folks - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Golden amber colour. Aroma holds lots of hops, with a bit of skunkiness, but the pleasant, weedy kind, not the "dead skunk in the middle of the road" kind. Flavour of honey and grapefuit, balanced by some caramel malt. A very well-balanced IPA.

golden amber color with tall frothy off-white head. aroma is mild floral hop, sweet and fruity like orange zest. flavor is mostly hoppy, and bitter like an IPA, but the balance from the aroma isn’t there - - malty sweetness doesn’t even play a supportive role. the caramel malt is is only there for a flash at the back of the palate. lacing on the glass like cumulous clouds. bitterness in the finish, but also reveals a light to watery texture.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev, jerc, R. and the rest of the gang -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a sparkling clear orange with a nice size diminishing off-white head. Slightly mild but pleasant hoppy aroma -- but not as hoppy as expected or desired. Flavour of hops and malt is nicely balanced and tasty but a tad thin. Light bodied. Enjoyable and easy to drink but needs more body and hops.

Bottle shared with a bunch of fine folks. Nice hops, orange aroma, bubbly white head. Wonderful balanced hop taste. Thin but balanced. Resiny hops in aroma as well. Excellent.

Bottle. Orange amber bottle, small white head. Muted citrus, orange hoppy aroma. Not a lot of malt, which makes the hoppy astringent bitterness much more pronounced. A bit more malt and a touch more hops would be lovely. Average to thin palate. Decent but I was hoping for more from Southampton.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, tupalev, DougShoemaker, R and others - my bottle. Poured clear copper-amber with a smallish off-white head. Dry aroma of light hops, toasty malt - simple, pleasant. Taste is a straightforward balance of light malt and light pine/resin hops, the finish is long, definitely bitter, but restrained - the body is a touch light, astringent and adequately carbonated - nice IPA, not a sipper, you want to *drink* this one ... could use a bit more body though.
