Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

bottle: pint glass: Pours a brown/ copper. The nose is hoppy, with some sugars/ yeasts available. Tastes of caramel with mild/ even hops, also some wheat. There is a bitter/ sweet balance which is sprisingly nice. However, this is an IPA and should be heavy on the hops... loses some points for straying from style.

Bottle and draft. Pours an orange body with an off white head. A grassy grapefruit hop character that dulls out to a bitter dry finish. Decent.

Bottle from goldtwins - thanks Larry! Autumn orange with a thin beige head that leaves minor lacing. Aroma is caramel and bready malt up front followed by citrus, grapefruit, and minor floral hops. Taste is of oranges and floral hops with some caramel mixed in but it’s not bursting with hop flavor like many IPAs. Not overly bitter though some does come through on the finish.

12 oz bottle: fairly clear golden straw, with flecks of yeast and other sediment that give it a shimmering quality in the sunlight. Small, thin and quickly diminishing ivory head. Strong malty aroma, full of must, spent grain and sour honey. The sweet, citrusy lemon rind is only an afterthought. Incredibly smooth, clean palate. With the must in the aroma I was expecting a thick, gooey overly malted palate, but this was clean, crisp and piney with tingly carbonation in the finish. Reminds me much more of English bitters on the beer engine than any American IPA I have had recently. I dig it!

12 oz. bottle. Pours an opaque brownish honey color with a light off-white head. Ekh, I don’t really know how to describe what the hell this thing tastes like. Oddly, to me, it is like malt and vinegar, I sense very little hoppy character to it. I would describe its taste as bizarre or quixotic. Not what I expected in the slightest. Very un-IPA like.

sample at the brewery Good citrus orange aroma. Darker orange body with white head and plenty of lacing on side of glass. Jucicy orange citrus flavor with a mild sweetness present. Cool and crisp and on the palate an enjoyable brew

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small, frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (meal, cereal, husky grain), heavy hop (flowers, grass), average yeast (must, sweat) with notes of buttered corn. Medium bodied, gritty texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Clear light piour. Smells very floral, a little dirty metal and a touch of citrus rind. Taste is heavily woody hops upfront, fades nicely to a good malt backbone and some molasses bittersweet stuff. Better and more balanced as it got back to cellar temp.
