Commercial Description:
IPAs are more highly hopped and a bit stronger than traditional pale ales. There are two distinct styles - English and American. English IPAs tend to be more subtle and a bit maltier while American IPAs have a bolder hop character.
Southampton brewmaster Phil Markowski has combined the best of both styles in his IPA. He’s crafted an ale with the bold citrusy hop character of an American IPA and the maltier, more refined flavor of an English IPA. Although the defining characteristic of Southampton IPA is balance, its incredible blend of three American and two British hop varieties is sure to please any hophead!

The beer looked good in a simple way, like most IPAs do, with a clear amber body, natural and lively carbonation, and one finger thick but durable head. The smell was mellow for the style with spicy hops in good dose, but not s much as to completely obscure the malt. The taste confirmed the initial impression presented by the aroma, in that this was a balanced IPA with malts allowed to play more than a simple supporting role. The hops were spicy and earthy with a lot of English influence, and the malt was tofee like with a some bready sweetness. Quite sticky in the mouth with a spicy bitter aftertaste. Easy drinking and enjoyable East Coast variant of the style.

12oz. bottle. Citric, piney, sweet aroma, some caramel and butterscotch with notes of mild grapefruit, herbs and spice. Clear light-medium amber color with a fine, fading head. Flavor is hoppy and citric to start, turning a bit sweeter and malty, and finishing with a woody tone and moderate amounts of bitterness and dryness. Not a lot of complexity here, just your basic pale malts paired with a medium hop profile. Average level of carbonation for the style, palate is fairly clean with a medium-full body. Drinkable.

Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Light hoppy aroma, with some sweeter fruit and caramel. The flavor has a strangely off hop profile, some sweet malt and a dry finish. Not bad.

From the bottle this brew poured clear, rich amber orange with medium off white head, holding for about 2 minutes. It smells earthy and piny. Nice aspirin bitterness with a gentle sweetness, nice malty backbone. It’s got a fairly complex hop profile. Citrus, bitters and florals mingle nicely. It doesn’t kick you in the teeth. The palate is right on. Delicious!

Confused, Wilkes Barre or Southampton, NY. Bottle said Wilkes Barre, rusty amber in color, more English than the America IPAs. More malty than hoppy, I guess a nice balance of malt and hop but not my fav IPA. I would try again though.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a clear amber with frothy off-white head. Aroma mostly of malt, very faint citrus pine hops. Very mild hop scent for an IPA. Taste of sweet malt, with mild bitterness. Tastes more like a pale ale, not an IPA. Mild/medium carbonation. Nothing to write home about.

Bottle Pours a clear amber with a good off white head. The heads stays as expected. Has a good hoppy aroma of spruce, and spices. Has a light carbination. A nice mouthfeel. A subtle hoppiness but a solid bitter finish. Has a watery texture. A pretty good balance. Not overly hoppy but still good. A good aftertaste. Has a medium to light body.
