beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 Semi dulled peachy browned honey color. Very dense and large capping of thickly frothy and clothy foam sits on top which keeps a finger high intensity the whole glass through. Very impressive. Sticky shelves of lacing have the appeal of scattered/tattered sheets. An awesome eye of an ale!
Softly pine sided aroma; clean, round, and woody. Notes of wet wood, green fresh hops, and some dullish old lemon and grapefruit.
Taste is nice balanced and favorable towards a more malty side then big on the hops. The malt backing is dead on yummy and complex as hell with a nice tone intertwining a nice mix of crystal, pale, biscuit, and caramel malts. Soft on the tongue up front, fluffy back end of hop texture adding nice bittering pinches of grapefruit and orange. The hoppyness is leafy and fresh with a very clean nature and easy going bite that screams drink me!
Solid medium body, nice texture and tone and change about its character. Kinda quite and subtle, soft and supple, with a nice flavor profile that sticks with you. The malts in the back are quite amazing to me.
Well done IPA here! It’s no hop bomb monster. It’s subtle play and soft alluring complexity is damn solid and very nice to behold.
malrubius (402), USA Aug 18, 2008 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Hazy caramel with flat head and lace. Toasted biscuity malt and mildly funky aroma. Mildly sweet fruity flavor with caramel and toated malt flavor followed by medium hop bitterness. Medium body and carbo. Decent enough. swoopjones (1092), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle @ Coles IPA Tasting. Pours a rather plain light golden orange. Aroma was mildy hopped, some malts & english tea. Taste was balanced, mild but overall lacking in hop flavor. canary dog (376), Rutland, Vermont, USA Aug 17, 2008 A very good overall IPA. Not top shelf, but very good for the next tier down. In the same class as Red Hook Longhammer. DrDavid (117), , Vermont, USA Aug 13, 2008 (Bottle). Very mild aroma, vaguely sweet citrus. Beautiful orange amber color. As for the flavor....just as claimed by Southampton, this is an IPA that goes light on the hops bitterness. Instead, there’s a nicely balanced citrus bite, mostly orange peel, and a piney envelope. The finish, as well, is on the mild side. Very pleasant. Damico (50), Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2008 I liked this IPA because it had a subtle balance of hops aftertaste without being very bitter. It also has a nice amber-red color to it with a clean head.
