Pours out a deep golden color with a huge white head, a really sticky head at that. Nose is a bit of sweetness followed by a noticable spicyness, Belgian yeast and perhaps a bit of lemon. Flavor is very nice, probably the best American version of this style I’ve had to date. Yeast, citrus, and spice blend together very well. The typical funk associated with this style is also present but not nearly as much as some saison I’ve had, unfortunatley I think that almost took away from the brew as I found the sweetness to be a bit too overpowering. Don’t get me wrong this is a very good beer but it just doesn’t seem to have that near perfect balance of sweetness, yeast, and funk of Saison Dupont or a Blaugies. Still a big thumbs up to Southampton for producing a wonderful American example of the style.

750ml bottle(Courtesy of beastiefan2k )-A golden body with a huge white head that overflowed out of the glass.Aroma of yeast, hops, citrus, and some nice funk. A light to medium body with a creamy taste along with everything mentioned above. A great tasting Saison.

750ml Bottle: Pellucid gold color, nice whispy white head and tons of lacing. The nose is very spicy with lots of bright fresh yeast and citrus; bitter orange peel, some pepper and fairly strong phenols, no alcohol though. The flavor is bright and citrusy, nice light toast and malt backbone to a grassy hop and spice tail. Fabulous yeastyness, lacking a little cohesion in the end, but it’s a fantastic nearly belgian authentic saison.

750ml bottle enjoyed with Turkey on thanksgiving 2007. Trade from Hopdog! Pours hazy straw gold with a frothy head and nice carbonation. Light straw in the aroma with grain and hint of funky lemon. Sweet hints great you at first taste but those quickly fade to reveal plenty of funky yeast flavors, bread and grain, lots of lemon, and touch of alcohol and some grassy hops. Very carbonated mouth feel with a medium body and a lightly coating/creamy then dry finish. Enjoyable but a bit too lemony for my taste.

Bottle. Pale golden honey-like color with a very active fluffy, lacey white head. Aroma of citrusy fruit(orange, lemon, not like citrusy hops though) and sour musty funk. Flavor was tart and mildly sour, fruity. It didn’t have as much peppery spiciness as I like, but good nonetheless.

750 ml bottle

I have been sitting on this perhaps a little too long. It was decent but for something claiming to be ’deluxe’ it left a little to be desired. This experiment in aging proved that not all beers are meant to stand up to even a few months on the shelf. I’d say that Southampton is a solid brewery but doesn’t have anything amazing on their hands with this.

Aroma / Appearance - A bubbly two finger head faded quickly. The honey colored body underneath smelled of mandarin oranges, barnyard and white wine. A little bit of funk was still in the background but not strong. The dust of cellaring got into my nose via a musty base.

Flavor / Palate - Tart apple pie, sour tastes and an earthiness tickled the tongue. The orange profile was cloying and stuck to the throat for far too long. The creamy finish redeemed things somewhat but I still wish I would have opened this sooner.

25.4 oz bottle, 2006. Clear gold with a puffy white head. Nose is yeasty lemon peel and pith. Hints of floral and spice. A lot of carb in this one makes for a puffy, zippy mouthfeel. Carb dies down leaving lemon oil and sugar cookies. Finishes with mild sour metallic melon. I’m not sure if a bigger saison is better.

750 ml I picked up for half of the regular price. Hazy in the bottle with a thick layer of yeast in the bottom. Uncorked and poured slowly into my glass. Bright cloudy golden-orange in color with a billowing huge white head and thick lacing. A bountiful aroma of fruity yeast, musty with a nice funk. Light and tingly on the palate. It’s tangy with a mild sourness, rather balanced and refreshing. Lots of wonderful flavors, the most I’ve been able to detect in a Saison. Oranges and peaches over an earthy malt base. Musty yeast and spicy hops. Tart enough to intrigue me, but not too much. Well done, I thoroughly enjoyed this bottle.
