750 ml in Gulden Draak tulip. Pours clear gold with huge, lasting rocky white head and some lace. Aroma of fresh hops, lemon tart, and sourdough. Flavors of honey/lemon/apricot(?) with a clean spicy dry finish and slight fresh hop aftertaste, with very slight warming alcohol. An excellent example of the style, IMHO. Still, I wonder why I’m paying $9.99-11.99 for this when I can get Saison Dupont for 7.99.

750 purchased at Once Upon a Vine, Richmond. A big orange body with a massive head, this one is translucent and quite fine looking. Lush fruits like banana and a bit of spice in the nose make for a promising start. But while it’s a pleasant brew - definitely above average - there is a bit of an odd character to it: a slightly off-putting combination of buttery and astringent. Still enjoyable.

Lightly hazy golden yellow with a very large white head and continous bubbling similar to champagne. Spices, yeast, earth, semi-sweet malt, some mild orange and banana notes as well. Body is light, with hefty carbonation. Flavor is spicey, yeast, some malts, earthy hops, and some fruits. Finishes with noticeable alcohol, and a dry bitterness. A bit harsh for a saison, but extremely enjoyable, as well.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of pineypower. Slightly hazy golden with a big, rough, off-white head. Aroma of yeast and citrus. Medium-bodied with a huge and very lively and bubbly head. Lots of fruit, lots of yeast and then a crude, brutal and extremely unpleasant and unsophisticated bitterness in the finish. Sorry, but this came off bad after a nice start. 220607

Pours with a golden body topped by a thick, white, foamy head with a good amount of lacing left behind. It’s slightly sweet and grassy with a bitter hoppy note and a touch of sourness. Light to medium bodied and dry.

Pours a clear amber at the beginning, but the glass gets cloudier with each pour. And you pour a lot with this one because of the booming carbonation. Big fruity yeastiness is the main thing here. Bubblegum, navel oranges, apricots. It’s pretty dry. The malt doesn’t provide much sweetness. Lingering bitterness in the back.

750 mL bottle corked and caged. Thanks for sharing Kevin. Poured a cloudy orange color with a billowy white head. There was some nice lace on the glass at the end. Attractive aroma of fruit, white wine, and spices. Very effevervescent on the tongue, but appropriately so. Tasted of yeasty bread dough, champaign, subdued apple, and spices. Delicious.

NorCal tasting June ’07 - Now this was a tasty saison. Another excellent creation by Southampton. Aroma is really spicy, bubblegum, alcohol and light fleshy fruit. Appearance is golden yellow in color, huge eruptive head. Mouthfeel is tingly, with a slight burn. Flavor is fruity, yeasty, spicey with a noticeable pepper kick. Saisons aren’t one of my most favorite style, but if Southampton keeps pumping them out like this, things might change.
