beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 Deeply darkened amber, browned orange haze. Dense finger high head of thick, creamy lightly tanned foam sits well before settling to a solid skim always present. Lace glazes the glass with an immense broken sheeting that cobwebs its way down.
Aroma is soft and subtle of whole grain bread doughy sweetness and a bit of toasted grassyness.
Taste is wholesome and firm with a nice tone of bready malts that favors a tender sweetness with a sliver of dullish fruity apple jam and quick little toasted edge of grains and poof of leafy hops.
Nice texture, very wholesome and bready rich with a firm medium/fullish body that holds an exceptional tone and lays out a very fun and subtle crescendo across the palate.
A pretty solid Altbier here, and at only 5.1% makes for a decent session beer.
afireinside96 (493), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 On tap at KSBF ’08 as Southampton Alt. Dark copper body with a small off-white head. Earthy, nutty with noticeable hops. Pretty good. mansquito (641), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Sep 24, 2008 Pours a beige head and leaves lacing. Reddish brown clear body. Malty aroma. Like the guy before me, I wondered if the beer was fresh. Kind of sour taste. Very light hops in the middle. Kind of sweet aftertaste. Some fruitiness, but nothing distinct. ucusty (1194), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 22, 2008 The freshness factor on this is highly questionable. Orange to copper pour with a medium off white head. Sweet malts on the nose and as well the dominate the flavor. Thin bodied and very bland. tomthompson89 (1149), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 18, 2008 Bottle from Premier, orangish color, decent off white foam, nose is sweet, dried fruit and bread basically, flavor is sweet malts, some bittering hops on the finish, ok beer. cking (731), North Canton, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2008 Dusseldorf style Ale, and a very nice one at that. Dark amber/brown pour with a lasting 1/2" thick head and strands of creamy lacing. Great malt nose with a hearty sweetness of nuts and roasted grain. Complimenting aromas of caramel and dark fruits add to the fine scent. Medium malt body with a pleasant sharpness and smooth finish. Toffee, baked bread, and caramel start off a good flavor, and are backed up by some mildly bitter hops and a faint fruitiness. I tasted some light smokiness that really added some depth. Very drinkable, this is a great beer to relax with.
