| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 4, 2009 Got this bomber in a recent trade with kirok1999. The bottle says it was the first beer of 2007 so it must be about a year old now. Dark red color that is almost brown but not quite. The flavor smells great, hoppy, toffee, West Coast. The flavor follows up with a chewy, hop-laden taste. Lots of hops in this one and that is how I like it. Given how good this tastes now I bet a couple years will treat this beer well. Best beer I have had from Southern Tier but I’m biased toward barleywines.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2009 Pours a brownish bronze with a smallish, pillowy, off-white head. Smells really nice. Certainly on the hoppy side for a barley wine, and potent - pale, resiny hops dominate the brew, with caramel malts and dried fruits (raisins, dates) balancing. The flavor is a little weak up front, but sneaks up on you fast. Low carbonation makes it a bit lifeless, but there’s definitely an alcohol burn. Full body, slightly sticky mouthfeel, and a dry finish. Good. But as has become the norm for ST, not anything worth writing home about. I do like their labels, though... skortila (2900), Bunnik, Netherlands

Bottle. [Papsoe grand American tasting] Small light bubbly beige head. Spare display of lacework. Light cloudy amber color. Aroma of rye bread, fruit, toasted malt, caramel, light vinous, raisins, mild wood. Feels like a Barley Wine. (This is a blind tasting). Full bodied, soft carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor with mild counter bitterness. Lingering toasted malty and light nutty finish. 8 / 3 / 8 / 4 / 16 = 3.9
