Dec 18, 2007 Shared a 22 oz bottle with Duane. Brown pour, little in the way of a head. Very sweet, caramel and fruity aroma. Flavor was similar. Very sweet, slightly roasty. Medium mouthfeel. Nothing particularly memorable about this one. Easy drinking though.

Dec 15, 2007 bomber from my secret santa. pours a dark amber, tarnished copper color with a quickly fading head, settling to some spotty lace. aroma of molasses, sweet caramel and a hint of dried fruit. flavor is kind of sweet, though not as sweet or cloying as the DR BW I had last night. also, in the flavor profile is some citrus and lurking in the background is a berry presence which doesn’t quite fit. slightly warming as I finish my first snifter, but overall the alcohol is well hidden. nice beer on a cold winter night.

Dec 9, 2007 Pours deep amber with a small bubbly tan head. Strong aroma of burnt caramel and molasses, as well as a strong note of candied fruit throughout, and some alcohol. Fairly sweet flavor that follows the aroma quite well. Burnt and earthy caramel flavors dominate, with some fruity notes, a bit of alcohol, and some very light piny hops towards the finish. Palate is medium/full, semi-sweet, lightly alcoholic (but not hot), and fairly viscous. Fairly balanced and enjoyable, but the burnt malt flavors don’t work so well for me. Good, but fairly basic barley wine

Dec 4, 2007 Bottle. Pours clear brown, with a thin tan head. Impressive burnt malt and alcohol aroma. Super sweet, with a caramel flavor and less alcohol than in the aroma. Very smooth, with a decent finish for such a sweet beer.

Dec 3, 2007 Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some nice foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some floral malt also discernable. Taste is also a well balance mix between some caramel malt with some notes of toffee, dry fruits with a floral and bitter hoppy ending. Body is slightly above average with some great carbonation and no alcohol was showing. Extreme take on the style but still well balance enough to be enjoyable.

Dec 2, 2007 Transparent deep red amber. Aggressive pour produces good head that dissipates quickly. Lacings left on one side of the glass. Citrus grapefruit pine with apple, peat or woody undertone alcohol and a generous amount sugar sweet caramel malt. You can smell the syrupyness. The taste is similar but doesn’t work. Initial sweetness and bitter finish are off putting. Syrupy palate.

Dec 1, 2007 Thin dense head of fine beige bubbles. Sweet caramel malts and lots of hops in the aroma. Some toffee and a bit of alcohol. Dark crimson brown in color. Sweet and malty flavor with a nice alcohol kick. Bit sticky yet the body seems a bit on the thin side. Kind of vegetal in flavor. More caramel and dough. Bit dry with a light bitterness from the alcohol. Finishes sweet and malty with a lingering dry pasty aftertaste. Hides its alcohol pretty well. A decent barleywine.
