| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Sweet, sugary aroma with a hint of hops and higher alcohol. Dark brownish red body that is clear when held to light. Large, creamy, off-white head. Initial mouthfeel is very high alcohol. This is clearly a barleywine, which is refreshing considering the dumbed down versions I seem to have been stumbling across lately. Very rich, malty brew, but very nicely balanced with a considerable hop presence that is less hoppy and more a weave of bitterness flowing through the rich malty sweetness. Wonderfully balanced and beautifully crafted. This is an outstanding brew, which keeps my streak of outstanding Southern Tier brews at 9 for 9. Underrated. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2007 NorCal December ’07 - Another fine beer from the guys at Southern Tier. This time they deliver in the style of barleywine, a beer near and dear to me. I never can get enough of this style of beer, so when the opportunity is there to have a new one I savour it. The beer pours out a deep garnet red, clear with a nice one-finger thick head. Aromas are apples, caramel, grapefruity hops and a touch of molasses. Flavor profile is pretty much on par with the nose. Caramel, vanilla, toffee, light fleshy fruits and a bit of hops. Excellent barleywine. Hope to have this one again.
