| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 27, 2007 22oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head and dark copper/mahogany color. This is the best smelling Barleywine I can remember. Aroma is northwest hops-citrus/pine, medium malt-molasses/chocolate. Taste is right in line with the stronger side of the style northwest hops-citrus/pine/ resin/very bitter, medium malt-molasses/chocolate, dark fruit, plastic, alcohol. OK carbonation. Also could be an I2PA/American Strong Ale then saw on label- an imperial barleywine. Nice hop profile, but total beer not my taste. hopscotch (5544), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, brilliant copper ale with a small, creamy, white head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is an almost holy union of caramel, black tea and earthy, fruity hops. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and dancing carbonation. Sweet caramel flavor with adequate black tea and earthy bitterness to provide a semblance of balance. Finishes rich, caramelly and moderately bitter. One choice beer! Kudos to scraff for floating this one my way! CaptainCougar (5532), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2007 Bottle sampled on 5/8/07: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a lightly-lacing, spotty light tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel malt with some earthy, green grapefruity hops. Body starts with nice fullness and sweet caramel malt well balanced with good, fresh grapefuity hops. Finishes bittersweet and crisp, hiding the alcohol well. Bov (5514), Bienne, Switzerland
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 4, 2009 from crackedkettle.com - quite clear dark brown colour, little beige foam; the nose shows a nice balance between malts and hops; mint prune and quince; full-bodied and with some sweet malt backbone; the palate remains quite velvety; bitter and long aftertaste of prunes and hops - superb and dangerously drinkable at this alcohol level JorisPPattyn (5192), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2007 Smallish yellow-orangeish head, over absolutely stunning burgundy to accajou beer. Cake bottom, apricot & orange marmalade, and fresh hops (C and other); faraway fusels and multitude of esters. Very fruity, and yet bitterish; all kinds of exotic fruit as lytchees, apricots, with hops and maple syrup-covered; in a very, very balanced way. Ends a bit spicy-peppery. This is absolutely great. After some oxydation to the air, it gets an aroma as from horse chestnut husk. A bit burning MF, ending a bit dry, even wry. Quinine in the aftertaste. Impressive beer. Just the lingering hops make it maybe a tad too bitter. Again thanks to puzzl! MartinT (5075), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2007 Updated: Jun 23, 2008My Bottom Line:
Citrusy and sandy hoppiness carefully perfumes the peachy caramel before herbal and leafy hop bitterness claims the back of the tongue. This levelled Barley Wine remains a flavorful libation throughout, if not as impressive as some other Southern Tier strong ale offerings.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Frothy foam dwindles into the clear copper.
-Amarillo hops stand out proficiently.
-The smooth cleanliness of the maltiness is impressive, yet lacks some of the tongue-smacking goodness I enjoy in my favorite examples of the style.
-Alcohol is well concealed in the round maltiness.
Bottles.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Been putting this one off for a while. Pours mahogany with a thin white head. Smells of sweet malt, molasses, maple syrup, some citrus fights its way through. Tastes Sweet with brown sugar, molasses, and perin at the forefront before giving way to some subtle earthy qualities. All in all a nice brew.
