Commercial Description:
“first brew of the year” Long ago, British farmhouse brewers made special ales using the first runnings of the mash. These beers, now called barley wine, are brewed in the tradition of days past. At Southern Tier this long awaited brew is placed on the back burner until the start of the new year. Back Burner Barley Wine is a celebration of things to come and things remembered. It’s conceived in three small batches, using voluminous amounts of barley and hops. The process starts early in the morning and ends late into the night. We hope this rare brew reignites your spirit for another trip around the sun. 10% abv. • 15ºL

22oz bomber via trade with someone that is escaping my mind, and hmm. Honestly I’ve lost my mind because I should know. If you see my rating alert my drunken brain. I was just about to drink a porter and I realized I want a BW. Pours dark dark amber almost no light in but a bit through the head. The head is thing third finger with a tan color. The nose is complex but subtle, with fruit, maltiness, a touch of hops and a bit of candy sugar. The taste is remarkably smooth, sweet and yummy. Wow that is a very very smooth Barley Wine, that I doubt has much age on it. This is a somewhat hopy BW not bad after a DIPA, this is damn nice. Another great one from Southern Tier.

Brown color. Thick palate and nearly still without carbonation. Good combination of lightly sweet malt and bitter, floral hops. Very nice full palate on this beer.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm.. Clear dark ruby red colour. Low creamy tan-coloured foam. As the beer warms up, the aroma is quite fantastic and complex. First some biding hoppy motes of grapefruit and wet grass. Later on sweet and almost sticky notes of caramel, figs, vanilla, crackers and leaves. Full and rather bitter flavour of grapefruit and leaves with dense sweet notes of raison, figs and red berries. Clean american mouthfeel. Grapefruit, grass and alcohol in the long finish with a slight stickiness from the caramel malt.A powerfull offering, a sippers delight.

Bottle from my ST hook-up Jay. Thanks my friend! Pours a cloudy brownish color. Carmel malt, brown sugar, honey and fruits dominate the aroma. Flavor is heavy on the malty fruitiness with very, very light hops. I liked the caramel and honey notes in this one very much. Good brew.

Pours a clear brown color with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor of hops, malt and something sweet. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation.

Bottled. Aroma has american citric hoppiness and sweetish fruity caramel malts. Hazy, amber coloured beer with a white head. The taste is bitter, sweet, has citric and piney hoppiness, caramel, some alcohol. Quite full and dry. Good one.
