Bottle. [Papsoe grand American tasting] Small light bubbly beige head. Spare display of lacework. Light cloudy amber color. Aroma of rye bread, fruit, toasted malt, caramel, light vinous, raisins, mild wood. Feels like a Barley Wine. (This is a blind tasting). Full bodied, soft carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor with mild counter bitterness. Lingering toasted malty and light nutty finish. 8 / 3 / 8 / 4 / 16 = 3.9

Apr 28, 2007 Bottle- pours a mohagany brownish red, with a small fizzy head. smells citrus hops cherry, molasses, and some whiskey. tastesberries,cherries to be exact, with a strong piney citrusy hoppy finish that is well balanced by the malty fruity sweetness. lingering brown sugar taste with some pepper/ mouthfeel is syrupy. I can see this one aging really well.

Apr 11, 2007 I have to say wasn’t a fan of barley wine but thought I would give this a shot and glad I did. Poured a tea color body and an off white head, a very nice head. smell was bitter raisins, taste was fruity and nice. For as much abv, this was a nice smooth taste.

Apr 9, 2009 22 oz. bottle - thanks to tweety for this bonus a while back; pours a clear, dense amber with spotty white head, but mostly flat; killer nose of sweet fruit and sugar, body is quite thing, but there is tons of flavor; slight syrupy too; apples, sugar, and sherry; would love more body to it, but otherwise this is a yummy BW

May 26, 2008 Sampled at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening beer tasting, and shared by BDR and Badgerben. From a 22-oz bomber pours a clear dark reddish amber brew with a thick off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of light caramel malt, grapefruit and tangerine zest, and a touch of pine. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of chocolate, caramel, grapefruit, pine, and a touch of cinnamon. Finish is semi-sweet with a grapefruit and caramel aftertaste that lingers after the finish. A bit spicy aftertaste is also present.

Mar 18, 2008 The loog is a dark amber and it is clear when put up to the light. There is a thin head that last for the entire duration of the beer and the lacing along the sides of the glass are nice and spotted. The nose is full of roated malt and barley. there are also some hints of light fruits but they are very faint. As you drink the beer you can taste alot of cracked peppercorn with some roasted barley and bitter hops. The pepper stays on your palate for a long time after you drink the beer. The finish is full of booze and pepper with those hints of dark fruit and fig.

Oct 8, 2007 bottle. pours a clear dark brownish red with a medium off-white head that won’t quit. smell is nutty and malty with some floral hops and maybe even some berry and wood. taste is caramel malts with some pretty big citrus and floral hops taking over as it fades to a dry and mildly bitter finish. i can feel the alcohol warming way more than i can taste it. medium to thick body with very mild carbonation. a very solid barleywine, if you like the hoppier variety. if not, cellar it for a while, i’m sure the hops will grow more tame as it ages. but i like it as is.
