The body is lightly hazy medium copper orange with a slightly yellowish off white head. The aroma has some sweet massive donuts and pears. There is some caramel and also a little bit of citrus. The taste has some bread crust and roasted peanuts. The finish is lightly hoppy with some citrus, but then turns very quick to tropical fruit like mango. Strangely, the mouthfeel comes across as a little thing. I am not quite sure what Southern Tier wanted with this brew. Seem to me like it’s a jacked up amber, but the massive hops that should be there didn’t follow. phiconners (125), Massachusetts, USA

Smell is of hops, the hoppiest red ale I’ve ever had, which makes me happy. Bites the tongue with a spicy jolt and finishes smooth and sharp. tennisjoel (951), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2008 Pour is copper red with a very diminished ring of white head. Aroma is hoppy, with a bready, biscuit like malt beneath. Earthy hops come to the forefront. This finish on this beer is a little odd. Somewhat artificial/medicinal with a spicy almost hot finish (think Big Red gum). Better as it warms but overall still not my favorite from this brewer. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2008 22oz. bottle. Hoppy aroma of fresh cedar, flowers, pine and spice, with a toasty, amber malt note and a hint of fruit in the background. Clear dark copper color with a lasting, foamy, off-white head. Well-balanced flavor profile, with a big smack of spicy hop bitterness up front, turning sweeter, more fruity and malty with toasty biscuit and caramel, and blending these elements at the finish, lending a high degree of drinkability despite the strength, and alcohol is nigh undetectable. Creamy, effervescent and resinous palate with a good, full body. Sort of a simple concept really, and not a complex hop or malt bill, but nicely done all the same. Interesting choice on the Hallertau also, most other beers of this type use Pacific Northwest varieties. ucusty (1920), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
