Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

BOTTLE: another solid beer from Southern Tier. Dark orange/red pour, Aroma is malt, sugary, and some noticeable hop aroma as well. The taste is very intriguing - instead of the malt just mellowing out the hop, it seemed as though I could taste both malt and hop distinctively, both of them bold.

Wow, what an interesting beer. It pours a dark burnt orange with a thin white sticky head. The aroma is malty, with some odd fruity notes, floral, and a bit of hoppy resiny pine. The flavour is good, malty upfront, burnt sugar, melding with hop citrus bitterness in the end. Long dry hoppy finish.

Bottle sampled at DLD ’09 thanks to a distributor who just dropped a mixed case of ST and New Holland bombers at our table and said "enjoy". Thanks man! Cloudy red/amber pour with a medium beige head. Aroma is predominantly malt, but there is some piney hop balance. Flavor is about the same. A lot of people don’t care much this one because they want a hop bomb, but it’s right down the middle in terms of balance.

Unfortunately I think the bottle I had had suffered from improper storage at Total Wine and More in Richmond, Va. Pours ruby red with a darker brown color. Also just less than half an inch of head. Light to medium bodied. You get a hint of hops, malts, and a sweet kind of candied taste hidden in there.

Bottle snagged at Riverside in Kent. I have a feeling that this bottle was sitting on the shelf for a little while, because the adhesive is giving, so all the letters can be wiped off. I poured the slightly hazy amber beer and got an ’o’ and a ’s’ on my fingers. The aroma smells a little aged, a little musky and has a hint of brown sugar. The flavor is much of the same. This has mellowed quite a bit and as a result is very smooth. The bitterness has been reduced to a slight lacing which combines with the malt sugars to make it a little more syrupy. Not over-the-top, although it may have been when fresh, now it is more of a spicy-sweet relaxed ale.

Morgan’s tasting, 07MAR09. Bomber. Clear red amber with an off white head. Lots of earthy hop aromas, grapefruit and caramel. Chocolaty berry flavors are balanced well by the sweet caramel and earthy hop bite. Good stuff!

Pours burnt orange/copper color with a small beige head. Sweet caramel and biscuit malt aroma with some hops. The spicy hops are more prominent on the tongue and they blend well with the nice smooth sweet caramel malts flavor. The warming from the high alcohol content is noticeable but not overwhelming. Interesting and enjoyable beer.

Dark amber with a lasting off-white head, leaving lace. Aroma of caramel, sugar and some herbal, continental hops. Sweet caramel flavour, with grainy notes and a just slightly hoppy finish. Boring and sweet
