| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Dense, hazy, golden/orange body with faint carbonation beneath a large yellowhite head which settles slow and frothy. After an initial whiff of pepper (which actually made me sneeze), I got a big nose of pine and citrus, from sweet tangerine to tart lemon. While hops dominate, there are enough malts here to uncover some light, pale DME and a sweet caramel backing. Sharp and thick in the mouth. Flavor seesaws between bitter and sweet... I’ll say there is balance here but only if you can picture some BFFs on either end of that seesaw (and I don’t mean "best friends forever"). Big caramel candy sweetness, mild tea notes, sharp pine, tart, rindy grapefruit, and undeniable ABV. Pretty huge. I notice Southern Tier likes to put "Imperial" on a lot of their labels. This time it’s well-placed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 22 oz. bomber from Kenwood Liquors, Oak Lawn, IL

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Bouquet of cherries, pineapple, and dried leaves. Hazy amber, thin head, good lacing. It tastes of fig and horehound, quite bitter. Overly long lasting bitter finish. It didn’t flip my trigger, but I appreciate the one hop attempt, even if it was Hallertau. phaleslu (514), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Ludlow Wines. Pours a reddish color with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, alcohol, floral hops, chocolate malt, mild spices, and mixed fruits. Flavor of caramel and chocolate malts, hops, spices, berry fruits, citrus, and warming alcohol. Sweet and malty up front, more bitter and alcoholic late. Medium bodied. Another solid ’Imperial’ offering from Southern Tier, albeit not as easy to drink as the others, as it packs some punch. saxo (3594), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark

Aroma is sweet hop. The flavor is extremely smooth, slight hop flavor and maybe the chocolate malts very briefly making an appearance. manuchampions (108), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2009 22oz bomber from 16th street liquor in West Van. I’ve had this before but didn’t rate it at the time. Nose is somewhat IPA like...hops, taffy like malt. Pours a clear copper with thick head. Taste is predominantly malt, somewhat caramel like, with hope present but very much in the background and then lingering in the finish. Alcohol is well integrated. This is another solid imperial offering from ST, just not my favorite of the bunch. madsberg (4965), Søborg, Denmark

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2009 Pours a cloudy ruby red/ coppery orange with golden burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a 2.5 finger frothy yellowish beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring.
Strong citrus hop aroma with some earthy floral notes and a very prominent caramel malt presence. Subtle pine.
Very hop forward with a nice blast of floral and citrus hops that is quickly balanced out nicely by a caramel chocolate malt backbone. The hops are very prominent up front with a nice dry pine flavor along with hints of lemon peel and grapefruit. This is followed by a sweet caramel maltiness with hints of chocolate and some alcohol heat. The dry, bitter hops linger over top of the malt backbone and last into a dry bitter finish with slight alcohol heat.
