Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Fantastic stuff. Pours light for a red ale, more of an amber color, with a gorgeous foamy head that resembles the surface of the Moon. Taste is complex and balanced, hops and malt are dancing in perfect choreography here, with an amazing clarity. EXTREMELY drinkable and delicious, I am an instant fan of this beer. The high alcohol content is well-hidden. This is damn good stuff. Nice use of Hallertau hops. A quality offering from this brewer. Way better than the gum. This tractor is about to mow your ass over.

Word to drewbeerme for sending this one. Pours a clear copper color. Subtle floral hop aroma. Slight sweet flavor with a faint bitter hop finish. The hallertau hops are a faint subtle flavor and add a bit of a bit to the finish.

22 oz bottle shared with natedoggkc at Waldo Pizza in Kansas City, MO. Pour is orange red, slightly hazy. Not much head to speak of, only a small wisp of white. Aroma is nice rye graininess and citrus hops. The taste has the same elements as the nose, with the graininess balanced with the floral citrusy hops. The finish is a bit hot, with some harsh medicinal notes present. Palate was on the thin side.

Pours a nice copper with a big thick head. Aroma is spicy, toasted malt, cereal, biscuits, some light fruit and cherries. Taste is cereal malt, kind of like cheerios, and spice, some tart fruit, and a bit of chocolate. Dry, bitter finish with rich mouthfeel that’s a bit sticky. This is a style that i feel is unique and delicious. This is a great example of the style, southern tier’s imperial series is always solid.

Bomber. The body is lightly hazy medium copper orange with a slightly yellowish off white head. The aroma has some sweet massive donuts and pears. There is some caramel and also a little bit of citrus. The taste has some bread crust and roasted peanuts. The finish is lightly hoppy with some citrus, but then turns very quick to tropical fruit like mango. Strangely, the mouthfeel comes across as a little thing. I am not quite sure what Southern Tier wanted with this brew. Seem to me like it’s a jacked up amber, but the massive hops that should be there didn’t follow.

Pours a light copper. Hoppy flavor, but I agree with tennisjoel the finish is but spicy and different. A nice effort.
