Commercial Description:
Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

Apple juice colored pour...reddish yellow. White head, fades quickly. Not much to smell. Definite woody taste. I can taste a bit of vanilla, I think. I don’t taste much cherry, or much fruitiness at all. It kinda tastes more like a wine than a beer. Very dry finish too.

Sample at Neil’s HSC initation. This beer is a slightly hazy golden amber color with a medium thin white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing. Light oak and cherry aroma. Light body with flavors of spices and wheat, oak, and surprisingly little cherry. The finish is peppery and oaky but not in a good way. Overall the beer is slightly below average and a rare miss for Southern Tier.

Experienced from a 22oz bottle in a tulip glass. The beer pours a medium yellow to light golden color, with a white head. The aroma is odd, bringing not much cherry, a nice full malt aroma, and some wood. The palate, however, is something of a disappointment. Absent are the familiar citrusy/lemony/spicy flavors of saison, and instead present are notes of strong wood, heavy-handed malt, and what seemed to me to be off-flavors. The finish is appropriately dry. Overall, not a terrible beer, but Southern Tier makes far better products than this.

Light golden color, crystal clear with a fluffy white head and thick lacing. Fruity aroma with some tart cherry notes and a touch of noble hops. Quenching and mildly tart, lighter in body. Nice warm weather drinker. Straw and dry wheat flavors coupled by some mild funk and fermented cherry. A touch woody and dry.

22oz bottle. Semi-opaque gold with a medium white head. Yeasty aroma that is somewhat tart and acidic with some cherry notes. Cherry and vanilla flavor up front with lots of yeast and a bit of sourness.

Apple juice amber with thin white head. Smells of wheat, candy sugar, cherries, funk and spice. First sip tad sour. Eases up. Watery mouth, light carbonation. Tastes of pale malt, cherries, ripe fruits, peppery booze, and nice oakiness. Fruit is actually not a killer here. Champagne like. GI Juliet and Sofie side by side w/this would make for a good session. ST’s chocolate-soda beers make me sick. This not SO bad. Might go good with lunch, but prolly won’t revisit. Generous rating just for being oaked. Warming.

Pours cloudy amber with a small white head. Aromas of cherry, funky oak, minerals, peppercorn, and grain strangely come together in a weird way and add up to the stench of leaving cabbage and potatoes on the counter while cooking and forgetting about them and coming back into your apartment after a long weekend and wondering for not very long what the stench is. Taste works a little better. Most of the elements are still there, but it’s mostly dominated by cherries without any vegetal rot. Mouthfeel is good, finish is abbreviated.

22 oz- decent- not much in the way of cherry aroma- mostly get vanilla and oaky notes, syruppy mouthfeel accompanied by decent alcohol warmth- drinkable despite abv, but would not reach for again.
