Commercial Description:
Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.

I enjoyed this on a hot day and it just wasn’t what I expected. Some funky faint fruit but not nearly enough to be descibed as cherry. A little spice and a little grassy with some wood. Not really Saisony to me.

Had this bottle last weekend with a couple of friends, it is a year old. I do not recommend aging this one whether accidently or on purpose as the cherries do fall off a bit. I still got cherries on the nose though and it has a nice golden color. Some straw in there as well in a way, I guess more in the aroma obviously. I always seem to get that with Saisons. It did lace the glass very well. I am looking forward to the release this year as this will be a fun to have during the summer when you want a cherry refreshment.

My Million Beer March Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Looks like a clear yellow-orange with a thin white head. Aroma is oak shavings, some mild spices. Taste is big oak splinters, light vanilla, hidden cherries, so much oak overpowers whatever subtle saison notes are there, but somehow I really liked it.

Bottle shared by glkaiser. Thanks man. Hazy golden pour with no head. The aroma is light, sweet, somewhat fruity, with a pinch of wheat perhaps. Not really any cherry aromas to speak of. Spicy, oaky, with some underlying fruity notes, and just a hint of cherry medicine kind of stuff going on here. Somewhat light and uninteresting on the palate. I guess it was very drinkable for the abv, trying to find something nice to say.

[1846-20081103] 650mL bottle. Boozy yeast aroma has toasted fruit skins and some cherry throughout. Hazy, light orange amber body with a medium-lasting bubbly white foam. Boozy yeasty grains flavour with some hints of toasted cherry and a background of wood. Medium-full body. Very boozy but also quite bitter.

Cloudy pinkish amber, no head. Winey, oaky aroma, with just a hint of cherry. Odd, "fat" mouthfeel that doesn’t quite work. Notes of wine and oak and cherry and some herbal notes as well. Not bad at all, but not quite a cohesive unit, either.

Bottle. Interesting concept just based on reading the bottle. Pours out a yellowish brown color with a thick white head on it. Smell is fruity, plenty of oak, but it also does not have near as much cherry as I would have thought it should have in the smell. Taste is kind of harsh at first, no real cherry flavor at all - just tastes like a somewhat bitter, poorly done saison. I wasnt digging this one.

I expected more cherry in this honestly. Given southern tier’s ability to impress my tongue recently with being spot on with the names of their beers, I thought the cherry might outweight the funk. It didn’t. Some funk, and some oak flavors with just a hint of not-quite-ripe cherries. Some vanilla that seemed oddly out of place.
