I’m not getting too much of the woodiness except for a slight bit in the finish. I wonder if the cherries were fermented in the gas tank of that pickup on the logo. The alcohol is very present and not subdued. The aroma does impart a nice tart cherry flavor. It also seems more like a Belgian style ale than a saison. The yeast is dominant throughout. jason (1624), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Poured a nice golden body with thin head. Aroma is light spices, oak and wood. Flavor is light oak, spices, yeast, earthy and light fruit. I didn’t get much of the cherry in this one and was surprised on how much I liked this one. GregClow (2515), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Slightly hazy golden with a small white head. Odd aroma - a vague hint of cherry of you know to look for it, some oakiness, some musty yeast, hint of spice, and something else that I can’t really identify. Medium mouthfeel. Flavour is rather disappointing - again, a very vague hint of cherry, but it’s overpowered by notes of wood and caramel, a hint of cream, and a mild spiciness. Quite a strange beer - I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. BREWMUSKCLES (1087), New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2008 PERHAPS this is really a 2.9 sort of a beer but that regal tasting old ale flavor which i attribute to the oak beckons me to refuse to deny this a 3. tart chalky and tangy of taste. cherry...hmm yes the sour combined in balance with a cough medicine sweetness. both hit the palate at the same time and do play off each other -though i won’t declare a winner- and a metal taste that morphs as the beer sits to a decent hop taste (as a matter of fact now a 3.1) low carbonation as i have already hinted to you friend good buzz and a nice pleasant aftertaste some time later. more a sour cherry hop liquer that is low in alcohol, do try some! oh and yes the usual Belgian type spices in moderate measure with the accompanying yeasty body also cloudy and in moderation. Aroma is of musty cherries. Im not sure what to say about this beer. It wasn’t close to what I thought it would be. Can’t say i likeed it at all. Oakes (8142), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Golden with very slight haze. Footy, fecal aroma with a hint of cherr. Some dusty, footy taste with a very minor cherry accent. Some vague spice. Succeeds neither as a saison nor a fruit beer. alexsdad06 (1106), Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 21, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy dark golden color with a smaller white head and a decent amount of carbonation. The aroma is spicy, dry malt, and exhibits decent wood character. The description describes this as being "aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries." I think it would be more accurate to say destroying any and all evidence that cherries were ever present. This is mainly moderately sweet dry malt, somewhat spicy, a slight medicinal note, and light bitterness. I really enjoy most of the ST Blackwater beers, but this one is not one of my favorites. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 20, 2008 On tap at the Knickerbocker. Very light aroma, mild sweetness and a bit funky. Very little cherry or hops in the nose. Clear golden with mild haze, topped with thin lacing white head. Medium watery body with heavy carbonation. Starts with mild sweet pilsner malt, light oak, and a bit of barnyard yeastiness. Cherry skin bitterness and light bitter astringent hops at the finish. Dry chalky after. Interesting saison. Can taste oak but not much cherry. A bit more in the nose as it warms.
