Aug 10, 2008 Courtesy growler. Pours a clear, medium golden color with very little head and virtually no lacing. Sweet, bready yeast, light fruits (but no cherry), toasted white bread, and floral hop notes comprise the nose. There is a touch of vanilla coming through from the oak, as well. Flavors are again sweet, floral, and yeasty. Cherry is nowhere to be found, indiscernible, light fruity notes taking its place. Medium bodied and sugary, the mouthfeel falls short, just as the rest of the beer does. I can respect the attempted innovation, but this is a disappointment, coming from such a good brewery.

Aug 9, 2008 This was really disappointing, esp. because I’ve come to trust the Southern Tier Imperial series. Let’s lay it on the line: where’s the cherry?! Where’s the wood? What I get from this is a decent saison aroma, of yeast and lightly fruited spice, and a flavor of pepper and hops, with a strong bite in the finish, lightly astringent. It isn’t even particularly good as a saison--perhaps it has a bit of a Triple sensability? But whatever, I didn’t enjoy it much. The most redeeming feature about it is its relatively low price--about $7.50. Cheap does not equate to "good value" however.

Aug 9, 2008 Deep gold, slight chill haze, slight head fades slowly but ultimately entirely. Aroma is grainy, a bit of caramel, faint cherry, and a bit of sweat and spice. Flavor is initially a bit woody, presumably from the oak staves, although the yeast could contribute. Some spice notes, notably white pepper. Biscuity malt notes differ from the caramel on the nose. Slight cherry note moves into a sweaty finish. Not bad, but didn’t blow me away either.

Aug 8, 2008 Bomber at RBSG 08 Grand Tasting. Orange-gold color with a decent white head. Little lace. Generic saison aroma/flavor with light citrus, spice, and yeast, with a dash of fresh cherry juice. Could use more cherry character. Not a lot of complexity, but extremely drinkable and refreshing.

Aug 7, 2008 Bottle (22oz). Pours a hazy yellow-gold, quite bubbly, with an average size diminishing white head. Aroma of grain, wheat, mild citrus fruit and some sweetness -- no cherries at all. Flavour’s a little more flavourful then the somewhat bland aroma suggests, so that’s good. There’s yeast, wheat, some fruit, light hops, spices and a oaky/spicy finish. Alcohol’s well hidden, I’ll give it that. It’s a good Saison-like Wheat beer but there’s no cherries all which is disappointing.

Aug 6, 2008 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy yellow to orange with a lacing white head. Mild spiced and slight wheaty aroma. Mild fruity and wheaty base flavour. Smooth and fruity finish. Nice and mellow.

Aug 5, 2008 Pours a cloudy gold orange, with a medium white head. Smells pretty malty actually, I was surprised by this. Creamy vanilla and maybe a touch of some fruit in there, but not much. The flavor is kinda wierd, which I thought it might be. Kind of an uncomfortable cherry meets funk meets caramel malt incident. I can appreciate the originality of this attempt, but these flavors really done mesh well in my opinion. A little hiccup, from an otherwise fantastic brewery and a personal favorite.

Aug 5, 2008 Bright hazy yellow color. Yeasty nose but quite vegital. Cobwebby flavors must hide the cherries because i dont taste them...I mostly taste chunky yeast notes. It’s not overly bad per se, but its forgettable...even though it tastes a little different not different enough to be unforgetable.
